UT Houston Fall 2010 (University of Texas at Houston)

Anyone here applied already?

Have you taken the NET exam?

I do have great connections but I am not using them...I have a parent of an almost teenager and I have worked my butt off and I want to do this fairly or else how could I teach my son too. I want to get in the way everyone else does because of my hard work and my determination not because I know someone. More than likely from what I have been told by my friends who work for the school, the 300 are from both. AND NO, they will not give me anymore a hint about my status than they will you guys...I will find out when all of you do. LOL!

Thanks....my interview is tomorrow and this message helped me relax. :)

I'm still nervous about my interview, especially since I have a few Ws and Fs. The Ws I retook all of them. The Fs were in classes that after taking them, I realized I didn't even need them, so I never retook them. If time had allowed I would have - to raise my overall GPA, but I want to start nursing school so I can focus on that and get my career going, not waste time retaking a few classes that I don't need for the program. Also, the reason for some of those (and the Ws) was that I had a lot going on - I graduated high school a year early only to realize that I had no idea what I wanted to do (so my grades suffered), I had a bout with depression (but don't worry, I'm fine now), and then recently I had a low score because my mom was diagnosed with MS and I kept going to visit her as she lives in another state because she was very sick.. She's doing a lot better now and has even gone back to work that's why I decided to apply for the Fall 2010 semester because I know I will be able to focus solely on school.

Do you guys think it would be good to explain that to my interviewer when they ask? Sometimes I feel bad using me having problems (depression) and my mom being sick as an excuse, but those are the reasons that I was unable to put my all into my schoolwork, so that's why I have some Fs and Ws... Just wondering what you guys think or if you think it makes me look bad. It's not like I can lie lol, when they ask about the grades I'm going to have to say, Yes I have some.

Also, I never had to retake any of my science classes or anything. It was all stupid stuff like core classes or lame electives that I'll never need, so at least I can say I only took the science classes once!! :)

Hi Everyone, I wanted to leave a comment in regards to the number of applicants accepted for Fall 2010. I interviewed yesterday and I believe the lady I interviewed with said she was the director of admissions. I specifically asked her to clarify the number of people accepted to the program for this semester and how many will be accepted for the pacesetter program. She told me there is a definite 50 people in the pacesetter program and a total of 80 people in the regular BSN program. She then said it is a total of 130 people this semester which is good news for us. That is 30 more people than they normally take!!!

Good luck to everyone :yeah:

i knew it was 130!!

and natatat... i personally am going to explain why i have Ws... you do have a long list of reasons, u should be honest but make sure to word your situation correctly... dont try to make it look like pity!

Yes, I am sure it is 130 if she was accurate but I wish I would have asked her how many people are being interviewed. If anyone else has an interview coming up soon will you please ask that question and clarify for us. I noticed someone else said 300 which would be great but that number seems low to me. The average number of applicants to the fall semester is 1400 and it sounds like a lot of us qualify based off of GPA/ NET.

Thanks in advance for the clarification if anyone asks this questions :)

Natatat- You and I seem to be in the same boat. I remember comparing our Gpa's and Net scores and they were almost identical. I also have the problem of a few bad grades and way to many W's. I didn't know what I wanted to do for a long time and kept changing my major. I'm sure if we went to any other program other than nursing we'd be fine but I just didn't know I would need all this competetiveness way back then : )

When the interviewer asked about bad grades and W's she didn't ask me for a reason she just wanted to know how many D's and F's and in which classes. She never asked me the number of W's, which is just far too many to explain. I think it would be ok if you mentioned one excuse but I don't think you should go into detail about numerous things like medical issues or anything. You should definitely just try to keep the interview positive. Just my personal suggestion.

Thank skygyrl and juliieejellybean... I think I'll just try to see how the interview goes. If I sense that the interviewer is just asking to get it over with then I'll probably skip it. Any excuse is not going to erase the low scores and Ws, they're still going to be there! But if they ask anything about why then I'll explain. Thanks for the advice!

And that's funny skygyrl, that we have a lot of stuff in common with our grades, scores, and now Ws hahaha.

I'm fairly new to the site...what's the average GPA for most applicants? (undergrad, nursing prereqs, and science prereqs). I am sure this has already been covered. I have about 3-4 W's and 1 D..........hope this does not ruin my chances!

QUESTION:

For those of you who have had interviews:

I Don't know if yall expierenced this, but its starting to eat at me a little bit.

DID YOUR INTERVIEWERS WRITE YOUR ANSWERS FOR THE QUESTIONS HE OR SHE ASKED?

I'M TRYING TO STAY POSTIVE AND THINK MY ANSWERS WERE SO AMAZING THAT THE INTERVIEWER JUST WANTED TO LISTEN TO ME AND WROTE DOWN NOTES ON WHAT I SAID AFTER I LEFT THE ROOM. LOL

ANYONE? ANYONE?

For me she stopped writing after the Ds Fs Ws question.

My friend told me that her interviewer was still writing before she went inside in.

I'm guessing they will write down everything after the interview.

130 students! aww 20 spots down from 150

yeah i hope its 150 too!! but i honestly think its 130 exactly... the other 20 might be for waitlisted ppl /ppl who wont accept like Hawkins said! it has always been 80 each semester.. for sure.

Well the lady who walked us up to our interview stated it would be 100 ppl admitted to the regular program and 50 to pacesetters.
