Anyone here applied already?

Have you taken the NET exam?

Hello everyone,

I'm applying for the UT Houston Spring 2011 class. I was wondering if you guys can tell me about the program - the school environment, the workload, the people, etc. What do you like about it? What don't you like about the program?

I'm also applying to TWU, and if I get into both I'm not sure which program I will apply to. Can anyone share their experiences with UTHSC?

Nursing school is terrible, end of story. The school is rather warm at times, but overall decently clean. Most students spend their time on the 2nd floor during "free" time hanging out/studying with friends. The cafe is good until you get tired of it, then it's awful. Luckily as a previous poster mentioned, there's plenty of places within walking distance. I didn't like anything about nursing school, it was terrible (accelerated program). It was overwhelming and if our class (May 2011 woo hoo) hadn't stuck together throughout the entire thing and cheered each other on, we wouldn't have made it. Quite a few ended up on anti-depressants. The sheer stress was mind boggling, but now we feel like anything is easy. UT is ranked higher than TWU if that helps your decision at all. Clinicals are typically assigned in the med center but a few were in outlying hospitals (psych, OB) which made it easier on those of us who live far from campus. Online lectures aren't so bad, as long as they aren't from Quackenbush (snooze fest). At first, one clinical a week seems overwhelming, then in our second semester we had 3 a week which we thought was a lot. By the third semester some of us were doing 5 a week. It's all relative. And our clinicals were 8 hours for psych, 11 for OB, and 12 hours long for each other class. Just take a deep breath and take it one day at a time, and find some good friends to cheer you on during the rough times. Above all, stick together as a class. Sorry if this scares you, but I wish someone had prepared me better for it.

Thanks for your reply Saphira. I'm a second semester Nursing student at UT now, and I'm learning a lot here. Although I do have a previous degree, I'm in the traditional program and I think that is the perfect pace for me (the accelerated program sounds like too much too fast for me). I love the sense of community here and how all the students (even from previous classes) are so helpful and friendly.

WhT is a pacesetter program
