Anyone here applied already?

Have you taken the NET exam?

is anyone roommate/apartment hunting? I am!

Hi everyone!

I recently accepted my position in the Generic program for the Fall, and I'm beginning the process of apartment hunting/roommate hunting. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know! Also, if anyone is interested in rooming together let me know!

Thanks!

Brittany

Hey! Just wondering if you've found an apartment/roommate yet?

Hello all. I was a part of the thread for Spring 10 and we were pretty close. I was accepted for spring 10 but could not register because I could not get my immunization records on time. I just want to say part of the nursing school experience the UT stresses is team work. You are even offered a senior mentor during admissions. There seems to be a lot of unnecessary stress from people. The interview is only a small part of the decision. I have seen people on this forum with solid 4.0 but did not get in because of their attitudes.

My input on the interview is this...the face to face part is one on one and only lasts about 5 to 10 minutes. The questionaire is about basic computer skills. The writing sample is one page. The question I was asked this time was "A 23 year old has AIDS and his mother has concerns that he may have leukemia because she noticed bruises on his legs and arms. The mother asked the nurse if her son is going to die. What might the nurse do in this situation?" (This is the question as I remember it)

I've read on here previously that someone stated that no one could answer these questions but you must understand that they are not expecting any "medical" procedure answers. They are looking for how a nurse could show caring, compassion and the basic qualities needed to be a nurse.

As far as acceptance I received an email notification before UTlink updated. I hope this helps someone and eliminates some of the stress and anger.

Good luck to all.

Seriously? You posted the actual essay topic? How fair is this to those of us who interviewed early on with 0 time to prepare? You better believe I'm taking a screenshot of this and reporting it to the UTHSC.

There were countless other ways to assist applicants with out revealing the essay topic. Thanks for making this decision for the rest of us. Your act of "help" was quite selfish.

To the moderator of the Facebook group stemming from this thread:

I'm currently finishing up my 2nd semester in the program, and I've requested to join your FB group. I'd like to make myself available to answer questions you may have (and I'm sure you have many!). I hope you'll approve my request. Congratulations, thank you, and good luck!!!

Hey Rachel,

I'm going to be starting my first semester at UT Health this fall, in a few weeks.

I have a few questions about my schedule and parking.

I would appreciate it if I could have your e-mail address.

Thanks in advance! ^^

Hello everyone,

I'm applying for the UT Houston Spring 2011 class. I was wondering if you guys can tell me about the program - the school environment, the workload, the people, etc. What do you like about it? What don't you like about the program?

I'm also applying to TWU, and if I get into both I'm not sure which program I will apply to. Can anyone share their experiences with UTHSC?

Hey, I'm in the fall 2011 class, and finishing up my first semester. The school environment is great. The building is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. The food is good, but when you tire of it (which you will) there's a lot of amazing food at nearby hospitals. My favorite is the 24/hr Smoothie King across the street at MD Anderson, which will give you 20% off when you wear your school badge.

However, the workload is VERY high. I don't mean to scare you, but getting in to UT Houston isn't half as hard as passing at UT Houston. I know when I started everyone was telling me not to worry about grades because C = RN. I thought, "Whatever, I can make A's," but now I know better. There is just SO MUCH work to do.

On the other hand, I wouldn't dream of being anywhere else. Good luck with your app! :)

how long does it take for the drug screening and background check to get to the school? The status of the background check states it is complete on their web page. I did my drug test last thursday( 3/17/2011). The status on the Utlink has not changed. What are the admission hold for?

Can you tell me what the typical schedule is for the 15 month program. I know the clinicals are the last semester and I have seen some people say that alot of the program is online. Can you please help!

Are you talking about the accelerated BACC2 program? Or the regular program? Or Pacesetters?

Accelerated/BACC 2 used to be a 1 year program. I don't know much about it since they've changed it but I'm pretty sure it's 4 semesters now, which is the traditional length. Clinicals occur throughout the program. The lectures used to be online but I think most classes are in person now.

The traditional program is 4 semesters, including a full semester in the summer. Clinicals occur throughout the program. At least one class is online and some additional lectures are online but it's pretty much an in class experience.

The Pacesetter program is only available (as far as I know) for fall entrants, and it's a fairly small group. The first semester is identical to the traditional program, including clinicals. Psych clinicals are done in the second semester. Lecture courses are finished in the 3rd semester and the remaining clinical courses are done in the 4th semester.

Here is the link to the schedules for both traditional and Pacesetter students:

Here is the link to the BACC 2 program:

Assume each clinical class is 8-10 hours at the hospital on a weekly basis. Each hour of lecture is an hour in class. That will give you an idea of your schedule. The actual days you're in class vary each semester.

Thank you for the information. How many days a week typically are lecture? I know in the LVN program I was in, I was only physically at the school 2 days a week plus two days of clinical.
