UT Houston Fall 2010 (University of Texas at Houston)

Anyone here applied already?

Have you taken the NET exam?

Whew... Okay. Honestly, I want this so badly that part of me considers all of you my evil competition. On the other hand, I agree that we are only the tiniest percentage of the applicant pool. If all of us get in, we'll be spending the next two years together. We should start out with a tight sense of community like previous semesters seem to have, based on their threads. I agree that if you're on this thread at all, looking for tips, then you probably want this as badly as I do and I hope you get in.

If you're not going to be cut-throat and agree to share any info you get in your interview with others who ask for help, PM me and I'll give you ALL the details of my interview yesterday.

I noticed other semester forums starting facebook groups. Has anyone done this for fall 2010.

I just did a facebook search and didn't see one. I'd love to join one!

Edit: I just made one :p

Hello all. I was a part of the thread for Spring 10 and we were pretty close. I was accepted for spring 10 but could not register because I could not get my immunization records on time. I just want to say part of the nursing school experience the UT stresses is team work. You are even offered a senior mentor during admissions. There seems to be a lot of unnecessary stress from people. The interview is only a small part of the decision. I have seen people on this forum with solid 4.0 but did not get in because of their attitudes.

My input on the interview is this...the face to face part is one on one and only lasts about 5 to 10 minutes. The questionaire is about basic computer skills. The writing sample is one page. The question I was asked this time was "A 23 year old has AIDS and his mother has concerns that he may have leukemia because she noticed bruises on his legs and arms. The mother asked the nurse if her son is going to die. What might the nurse do in this situation?" (This is the question as I remember it)

I've read on here previously that someone stated that no one could answer these questions but you must understand that they are not expecting any "medical" procedure answers. They are looking for how a nurse could show caring, compassion and the basic qualities needed to be a nurse.

As far as acceptance I received an email notification before UTlink updated. I hope this helps someone and eliminates some of the stress and anger.

Good luck to all.

Well, I thought I was pretty forthright about my interview questions The reason I didn't share specific questions ws because they were previously mentioned such as why do you want to be a nurse and so on. I can tell you that I know there were two different essay questions and they were previosly mentioned also. Also with the essay, someone who had interviewed last year said she wrote down basically her hospital's protocal for that situation and didn't get in. So I think they want to know how you would handle this situation. I am not sure if there is a right way to answer necessarily. I also think that all this bickering brings the mood down. Let's just all be supportive because this is definitely not helping us.

Was your interview yesterday? I think we sat at the same table and went up the elevator to our interviewers together. :)

Yes I was there yesterday. Red sweater dress.

I just joined the facebook group! YAY!! I have stated it already, but I plan on sharing my experience, but I do not have my interview till next Thursday.

Sorry about the immunizations holding you back. I went to my mothers house today actually and found my original shot records, LOL. Thank God my mom is a pack rat. It is all neatly packed, but packed none the less. :)

so 950 applicants>>>300 made it to the interview>>>150 will get accepted?

50/50 of getting in.... wow, relief.....higher chance of gettin in than I thought......I can almost see the finish line....hope I do not trip

cuz I do not want to wait next fall :p

all I can say about the drama is that I can see passion in each everyone of you!

passion in wanting to be a nurse!

Passion will ultimately be the very reason why you want to stay in nursing.

I'm sure WE WILL help each other out when WE ALL get accepted

because competition is out of the equation

I had my interview yesterday and would like to inform you guys on how my experience went. I parked in the Md Anderson parking garage (costed $8) and walked across the street to the UT nursing building. At 11:30am the 20 of us lined up and turned in our resumes. We then went into a room where the admissions ladies passed out 2 packets. We were given 1 hour to answer a few personal questions, 15 computer questions and 1 essay question. I went to the interview with a couple of my friends and we were all given different essay questions. I don't think it's important that you know protocol but that you just have good sense and can answer critical questions. This took most people about 45 minutes to complete. The ladies then came back in and started calling names. I was the 3rd to last person to get called and still got out of there by 2pm. I was very nervous going into this interview but quickly realized that this was one of the easiest interviews I've ever been to. It lasted roughly 10 minutes and I was asked about 10 questions that came straight off a sheet of paper. About half of the questions are questions that could be seen from your transcript, meaning they're effortless answers. The other 5 questions are also very simple to answer. One of my friends, who also went to the interview, asked how important in terms of acceptance the interview was. The lady said the interview is a very very small fraction of determining if you get accepted. She said Gpa's, Net scores, and how many classes a student has left are the biggest factors, but there are alot of other things that are looked at also. The interviewer was very nice and friendly. Hope this helps!

Seriously? You posted the actual essay topic? How fair is this to those of us who interviewed early on with 0 time to prepare? You better believe I'm taking a screenshot of this and reporting it to the UTHSC.

There were countless other ways to assist applicants with out revealing the essay topic. Thanks for making this decision for the rest of us. Your act of "help" was quite selfish.
