is using an old nclex book a bad idea?

My aunt gave me her 2000 Nclex book. It's title is NCLEX/Cat-RN Core Review Study guide by Margaret M. Dahlhauser. Do you think it will be too outdated? (my first nursing class starts in July) Thanks!

Yes, that is going to be far too outdated at 15 years old. Since you haven't even started the program yet, it will be even more out of date by the time you are ready to take the NCLEX. You can probably look through it to give you an idea of the types of questions to expect, but I would not use it to study from.

Way, way, waaaay outdated. The art and science of nursing changes constantly.

Why don't you worry about doing well in your nursing classes before you start worrying about the NCLEX? Plenty of time for that later.

And, yes, a 15 yo prep book is useless (except possibly, as noted, for failiarizing yourself with the basic question structure -- but you'll be doing that throughout nursing school).

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing revise the test plans for the NCLEX every few years. The last update was in 2013. You'd be better off with a current book.

Did it sound like I was worrying? I'm very excited, not worried.. I'm blessed to be in a great school that I've done well in so far and looking fwd to continuing the journey toward my BSN and beyond.

Thanks all!
