Use some class/compassion

Nurses Relations

Published

I think this forum is the best thing I have found. I have found alot of good information and suggestions. I just wanted to ask all who post or reply to a question to please use some compassion. There is no need to be rude or negative when someone is asking a question or giving advise. Everyone is entitled to their opionion and they deserve respect. I've seen too many reply's to a thread where people are just down right rude. Just my :twocents:

Thank you:D

To be fair, this place is a pleasant oasis compared to any other internet forum I've visited. I've surfed in some other forums and felt like I needed to take a shower in my brain when I left.

Oh, you go to gamfaqs too huh. Yeah, wow, the teenage anger in that place is unavoidable. You are flooded with it the second you even think of going on that site.

I just don't get that one? Why would you poke someone with a fish?! :thnkg:

better smacked with a fish.....:trout:....., than being stabbed in the back.....:smiley_ab......, or knocked over the head.......:lol_hitti..........haha !!!! (I just couldn't resist it !!!)

On a serious tone, yes, I thoroughly agree -- comments should be supportive, encouraging, gentle, and in a caring manner. If something needs to be rebuked or pointed out, then do it in a kind manner !!

......Remember, nurses work as a team, right? ......but a team can extend far beyond the "individual workplace", and include all other nursing staff - not matter what field of nursing he/she might be from. That's just my :twocents:

I'm too scared to venture into the political threads...:sofahider I don't want to be eaten alive!

You and me both!! I love this website and think that while there is the occasional rude comment, it's pretty tame here. Try going on a board for parenting/new mothers! Whew!! I've seen moms getting attacked for circumcising their babies, bottle feeding, and having an epidural. A post about what to have for dinner turns into a battle over frozen chicken or organic chicken.

i'd just like to point out that when someone posts and asks for advice, they should expect to get some they won't like or agree with. that doesn't mean that they're being "picked on", "eaten", or disrespected.

furthermore, no matter how gentle, compassionate or caring you think you've worded your advice, someone who is overly sensitive or looking for something to be offended by is going to figure out a way to call you rude, condescending or uncaring. that's just the way these boards work.

and as a third point, some people don't hear negative feedback unless you all but bludgeon them with it, and then they react to the all-but-bludgeoning and not the negative feedback. if you're posting that you've quit or been fired from six jobs in 2 years, and that you just cannot get along with your co-workers in any job and you think it's because they're all intimidated by your great beauty (and we've had a number of posters claiming this), then you deserve to garner some negative feedback and some of it is going to be pretty blunt. unfortunately, those folks probably aren't going to learn from our great advice, but there's always hope.

if you only want posts that agree with you, why put it on the internet in the first place?

which doesn't mean it's nice, polite or even smart to post in a vent thread claiming that "all you burn-outs are too mean to be nurses and should leave the field to make room for some compassionate newbies." especially if you aren't actually a nurse.

yeah, go hang out on the political threads . . .. .

i agree - class and compassion go a long way.

heh.

you're funny, steph.

of course, you've covered all bases, ruby.

the above, is what esp stood out to me.

and, what i consider respectful, others will see as biting or ugly.

sometimes you just gotta shake your head and move on.

it takes all kinds, yes?

I used to participate in forums for insurance agents back when I was an agent, full-time. It was a good way to get industry information. Those insurance agent forums were downright frightful.

For the OP: Each forum has its own culture. Allnurses has been able to maintain a hospitable culture for so many years, while undergoing massive growth, and I find that amazing.

This forum has over 200k (?) anonymous members who generally get along and even thrive with enriching dialogue. People tend to act differently when they are anonymous. Food for thought - perhaps focusing on a few sharp posts isn't seeing the forest for the trees.
