What do you want to know about the school? I know that it is a decent school. It is competitive. Last semester's (Spring 2010) minimum GPA was 3.68 and this semester's (Fall 2010) GPA was 3.59. I was told by my nursing adviser that 3.68 is the highest minimum GPA they have admitted. Academic advisers usually say that if you have a 3.6 or higher you are usually competitive enough to get in. I am applying for Spring 2011 admissions. I'll have a 3.69 and I am PRAYING that I get in.
NCLEX pass rates are usually 90% or above and attrition rates are low (e.g. UNR graduates a high number of people - 48 admitted, 46-47 graduated). This is much better than TMCC which graduates about 40% (here are just a few numbers from the past two semesters: 40 admitted, 24 graduated; 50 admitted, 20 graduated). Hope this helps.
Wow! Great info!!!Thank u :) Well I hope I kick butt in my pre-reqs. Good luck on getting in!!! Will you post back to let me know if u make it in or not?!

I graduated from UNR and I had a good experience. I graduated in '07, and back then 3.5-3.6ish was the min GPA. Good luck!
Feel free to contact me if you want more info :)

Now is that in cum. gpa or Pre-nursing req gpa? Hopefully it is the later. (I currently have a 3.05 gpa overall and a 3.59 gpa in pre-reqs...! Anyone know?
When I applied, it wasn't either - it was a GPA based on a selection of classes that included the science prereq's like A&P, Micro, along with other classes like ENG 102, Math 120, and some others. The application will become available here on the 18th of this month for Spring 2011 and it should show you which classes they tally the GPA for: OSN Undergrad Majors

i am also applying for the spring 2011 program at unr. i have a 3.896 in my pre-requisites, so i'm hoping nothing goes wrong and i get in. i'm excited just to apply, so i can't imagine how i'll feel if i get accepted :).
http://hhs.unr.edu/osn/forms.html this is the website you will want to look at. click on the link that says "[color=#002d62]bsn pre-requisite summary for 2010-2011" it will show you all of the pre-requisites that will count towards your pre-nursing gpa when you apply. also, the advisors are extremely helpful and truly do what they can to help you succeed. i strongly encourage you to visit one of the pre-nursing advisors if you are interested in the program.
Right, but the prerequisite summary has many classes listed that do not count towards your admission GPA for UNR's nursing program. Tomorrow the actual application should be available to look at. Unless something has changed, ENG 101, all of the CH courses, Fine Art, Diversity, and Statistics didn't count towards my admission GPA for the nursing program at UNR.
My apologies. I assumed that link showed which pre-requisites are strictly toward the pre-nursing GPA, but I was wrong.
Luckily the app will be available tomorrow and is due 9/17. I'd suggest getting it done ASAP. I'd imagine if your overall prereq GPA is that high that your admission GPA should be pretty healthy as well. Good luck!
I really enjoyed my experience as a student at Orvis School of Nursing at UNR!
My admission GPA is the 3.896. I just didn't double check the link before I posted it. My mistake. Thankfully, I did really well in the classes that count and my advisor said a 3.8 is plenty enough to make it in. I'm very excited to apply and will most likely be turning in my application tomorrow or sometime this week.
Sorry to hijack this post, but when did you begin the Nursing program at unr? I haven't had the chance to talk to anyone who has gone through the process yet, so I'm interested to hear how it was from someone with experience.
