University of South Alabama NP program

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi,

I am researching grad schools and became very interested in the University of South Alabama's ENP (dual FNP/ACNP) online program. I am interested in knowing how competitive the program is regarding acceptance. I have a GPA now of 3.3, 2.5 years ER experience in a level one trauma center, 1 year of trauma icu experience, 3 years of management experience, ACLS, PALS, TNCC and will have (hopefully) my CCRN cert when I apply. What are your thoughts considering the above information and your knowledge first or second hand on this university? Thank you for any information you can give.

Rachel

I am in the FNP program now and I regret my decision to go with this program (I was accepted in the 2 others I applied to)! I read 6 plus hours a day and have a hard time keeping up with the demands (clinical hours SOAP notes) the tests are awful and very detailed and it seems like they are trying to trick you. I have read almost 700

pages in 2 weeks and then was tested on the material with little or no focus. I would NEVER recommend this program! Two semesters to go and praying I can hold on...hating life...Run is all I can say to anyone interested in this program. I am NOT a whiner!

any information regarding the nu506

like what to expect with that class?

okay this post just scared me. I was really looking into this school.

Don't get scared or discouraged! I just finished my spring quarter and am going to start my second quarter in a couple of days at USA. With the support from my family, I was able to spend at least 24 hours each week reading and writing papers while working 3-4 days/wk. My weekends were gone and No time to spent with kids. All hardwork pays. At the end of my 1st quarter I got an A for both subjects. I would say my experience at online USA has been very positive. The instructors were supportive and always replied ASAP. We had a patho study group and everyone benefited tremendously. I have no doubt of the quality of the program. Put those negative thoughts behind and start fresh. You can do it!

I wouldn't let the posts here scare you away. As another poster said a lot of forums have negative reviews. Just like other scenarios, a lot of people complain when they are unhappy but don't necessarily share when they have a good experience.

I graduated from USA FNP in Dec. I had my own 'issues' with the program and felt it had some weak areas, but after talking with students in schools in my local area who attended more traditional programs, I found very similar complaints. No matter where you go, you will find something you don't like, whether it be an instructor, group work, test review, whatever. And in regards to test review, at some point (I don't recall what semester but during the last year), we did get a better test review than what you get initially.

While I did reach a point one time that prompted me to look into transferring, the moment was short lived and in retrospect, I'm glad I stayed.

I was accepted to USA's BSN-DNP (FNP/ACNP) program and turned them down after they never replied to my emails. This is never a good sign for a school. Plus in US NEWS and World report their ranking dropped from 115 to like 295. I asked them what this was about and they said they didn't know. Kinda odd.

I applied and got accepted to St.Louis, University of Alabama in Birmingham, and University of Arizona in addition to USA. I finally picked the University of Arizona. If you're in the West they have the WRGP program that you get instate tuition. The entire program was so great that they even allowed me to talk to 4 students of their program before applying. I start in August and I can't wait. They seem so supportive. I liked UAB too but they admit too late in the year compared to other school plus I kinda like Arizona's curriculum better as I get my summer's off.

Does anyone know about the psych NP program at USA?

It was a difficult for me as well, and I am sure will not be returning I thought it was me.. thanks for the validation.. this program is not for me..I just could not keep up with all the reading and test q2 weeks..

and I have done online programs before..

okay. i literally sent my application to USA's online FNP program about 15 minutes ago. then i found this. and i am TERRIFIED. so, all of you who hated this program--what online program would you suggest? and those of you who didn't hate it--why should i go for it?

Hi flgirl57, it's a pity you had a terrible experience. I have been to 2 different schools for different Master program before starting here with USA . I can assure you that there is no one that is perfect just like we humans are not perfect. So we have to aim at what we want to achieve and move on with our lives and to the next level. Good luck. Blessb.

How are you doing in the program thus far? There seems to be a lot of talk about the NP program. Does anyone have feedback on the DNP program?

So how are you doing, or how you you done so far? Would you still recommend the school? I'm looking at the DNP program and am very worried about the negative comments I've heard!
