I am researching grad schools and became very interested in the University of South Alabama's ENP (dual FNP/ACNP) online program. I am interested in knowing how competitive the program is regarding acceptance. I have a GPA now of 3.3, 2.5 years ER experience in a level one trauma center, 1 year of trauma icu experience, 3 years of management experience, ACLS, PALS, TNCC and will have (hopefully) my CCRN cert when I apply. What are your thoughts considering the above information and your knowledge first or second hand on this university? Thank you for any information you can give.
I am in my 6th semester of 9 at USA and I think it depends on your program. The psych program requires half of all clinical hours to be done with a psych nurse practitioner. They won't budge with this requirement. There are students in my class who will not be able to proceed next term
Because they have not found one yet. DOING a clinical with a PA???? That would never be allowed in the psych track. It really frustrates me that the different NP programs at the same school can have such different criteria.
So are the other programs allowed to complete clinical with an NP or PA? I also saw that the school had a list of sites that they work with from each state. Have you used any of the sites from the list?
Okay if you are looking at this school just realize that usa does not teach you anything. I am am 1/3 of the way done with this program and I have had 0 lecture no insturctor has taught me one thing. The school feels thier obligation to you ends when they take your tuition. All they do is provide an accreditied school to grade your papers and tests. There are no lectures power points are instruction of any type. If you learn best by reading 20 chapters and being tested on them then usa is the school you should go to. However, if you learn by any other method you will recieve no support from the school what so ever. When the school has been asked about this by the students at orientation the instructors response was we have heard that before and we have no plans at this time to add aditional formats to our circulum
So update on the professional practices at the University of South Alabama. 1/3 of the way done with my doctorate and the school sends my cohort an email that says they no long will allow us to graduate on time. We will have to add one additional year to our degree plan because they have decided that they do not think we should go this fast. After contacting the board of accreditation we learned that the school is within their rights to change our curriculum whenever they like. We were told that if we wanted to graduate in 9 semesters they would allow us to do so if we changed our doctoral focus from what we had been accepted for. If we wanted to get the doctorate we applied for we were told that we would have to complete 3 more semesters. Many of my classmates and myself contacted lawyers. The lawyers we spoke with all state that the school is state school and as a result is protected from lawsuit. I'm am not saying not to go to USA. I am would just like to review the facts. 1) the accrediting body says the school can change degree requirement whenever it pleases 2) you have no legal recourse for losses, damages or lost wages as a result of their right to change degree requirements 3) no other school will take your credits if you leave (this is standard for most graduate programs) so you will have to start over if you go to another school.
I just started with USA and there still aren't any videos! I knew grad school is more of a "fend for yourself" situation but to receive a response that more technology will be added provides false hope.
