Nurse Practitioner and Image Interpretation
Thank you so much! I will look into that. By the way, I'm still searching for a course in Radiology for the Non-Radiology person. :)

Nurse Practitioner and Image Interpretation
Let me clarify, I do not want to read images for final interpretation and would never even consider that I could do such a thing. I agree, that's what radiologists are for. I only want to enhance my own "personal" experience in order to feel more comfortable in the department. When all of the Rad Techs are looking at images and seeing certain basic things, all I want to be able to do is have a better understanding of what they are seeing. While in NP school we have an extremely abbreviated section on basic radiology reading which was pretty much useless. We are not radiologists and I would never think that I could replace that expertise. I just want more personal knowledge and want to improve my own skills.

Nurse Practitioner and Image Interpretation
I am a NP working in Radiology at a small hospital. We are trying to expand our Interventional Radiology services. I, too, am looking for information on how to read images. I have heard that there are courses specifically for nurses to enhance radiology reading but I'm finding it near impossible to find any CE in this specific area. If anyone has any information on a course for nurses to improve some basic radiology reading, that would be most helpful. Thank you, Terri

FNP in Interventional Radiology
Hi Jen and Jeremy, I am a FNP and considering a job as an IR NP that is being offered to me at a hospital. I would love to hear more about your experiences and suggestions, guidance, etc. This seems like a fascinating and exciting field . I have been a NP for 10 years working in FP all along. I'd love to learn more and do allowed procedures but it's also scary too! :-) The one thing that seems a little confusing is the combination of the facility wanting clinical AND administrative duties performed. Do you have any suggestions? Also, during procedures, say an ESI or CT guided biopsy - if the NP is first assisting the Radiologist should I also expect a RN to be in the room too, or other support staff? I am a little unclear as to what their expectations are of me as this is the first time they are filling this kind of position. I'd like to know more of what to expect. I worked hard to get a master's degree as a FNP and want to be very careful about being used as a RN and not an NP. Does that make sense? Right now an OR nurse assists the MD with sedation and a Rad Tech that manages the C-Arm. I would love to hear input from people who do this and to hear more about what I should expect as a role. Thank you! Theresa
