  1. USA's psych NP program favorable?? I really have a hard time believing that. I graduated from the program; almost everyone in my class hated the psych professor and many of the other courses how they were taught (pharm, patho, etc), the current students this year mostly hate her and the program, and the ones before me have told me the same thing.
  2. Sue, I assume this is because of ***** in psych? This being semester 2 of psych, how did you get through last semester with her? Have you completed all the other classes (pharm, patho) in the previous semesters?
  3. You're welcome. Let me know if you need more info about their psych NP program.
  4. Hi, the disorganization I was referring to goes far beyond Secure Proctor. The school was disorganized in bringing in SP without working out the kinds. This lead to people not being able to take exams and getting a "0", endless hours of students on the phone trying to get in contact with Tech Support at SP, etc. USA's psych NP is disorganized because of the psych professor. She is not only remarkably scattered and disorganized, she can't write a plain sentence in English, she requires some out of date books (especially pharmacology), which there is really no excuse for, she does not actually "teach" but just posts readings. She is unbending, and tries to run the program by intimidation and contempt for the students. Hr knowledge base is also rather lacking. Unfortunately, she is the only one who teaches the core psych classes, so there is no avoiding her. There is never feedback on exams, so there is no way of knowing where one did poorly. Some of the other classes at USA are reasonable, with helpful instructors. Others (pharmacology, pathophysiology) are an absolute time-consuming nightmare with unreasonable exams, lowsy study guides, etc. The psych classes always start in the fall at USA (Psych I), so that may be different from other schools. Best bet: go to St Louis University or somewhere other than USA.
  5. Just keep me informed as you move along in the program as to what you need and I will see what I have
  6. Seriously? You don't think every response being hateful, negative and unbending is unacceptable? Do you not think having no access to your exam answers is poor learning, and just lazy? Do you think every communication being grammatically incorrect, and incomplete is professional? "Old school" is called that for a reason....it happened in the past, not in the present as a way of teaching in any modern university, any. The issue with Secure Proctor is not the camera itself, it is the disorganization, lack of explanations, lack of coordination....what professionals in schools are supposed to do.
  7. I personally wouldn't look at it from a summer, spring, or fall start date. It's really about the quality of the program and quality of faculty and their respect for others. St Louis, Wilkes University, Rush, and Drexel all have good programs, as well as Stony Brook. I'd consider any of those.
  8. Reasons for not doing NP psych program at USA are vast: unsupportive faculty, odd exams, use of a camera to watch you take exams (Secure Proctor....you can look it up online), lots of busy work assignments, difficulty finding placements for many students (although this could happen in other programs too), a generalized contempt for students.
  9. Tell me what kind of resources you are in need of.
  10. Best advice from those finishing the Psych NP program at USA: run as far away from it as you can and go somewhere else!
  11. Just recently finishing MSN and have lots of ideas for people struggling to get through school about resources, assistance, etc., especially psych and other difficult topics. Let me know if you need ideas.
  12. Does anyone know about the psych NP program at USA?
  13. Hey Zenman and RobRN, Guy working in psych as an RN and just started a Psych NP program; are either of you in a program yet? The workload so far is doable, but was wondering if you heard of the implications of Dep't of Education Code 600.9 for online programs? Seems like this could put a quick damper on online programs. As usual I find the nursing faculty to be a little on the ****** side.
  14. How long were you at USA for? WHat made you leave? Also, I hear that Dept of Education code 600.9 may stop us from doing NP programs online now, have you read about this? I read it and called a few schools and they are confused about it too Thanks much!
  15. Thanks for letting me know, I am trying to transfer to St Louis University; I was accepted there and USA and SLU seems much more cordial. I appreciate your input a lot because I was thinking it was just "me" at USA !
