University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) DEMSN - Direct Entry Generalist MSN

Updated:   Published

Hello! I made this forum to connect with applicants or those planning to apply to UNLV's new MSN program for those with a non-nursing degree. Does anyone know when they'll start reviewing applications? It doesn't say on the website whether it is a rolling admission or not.

How early on do they tell your what your clinical days/ times are? And if they change, do they tell you ahead of time so you can prepare adequately? (Thinking about other commitments like work or childcare)

thanks for all your replies!! ☺️

If I remember correctly we were given our clinical schedule during orientation so we had a while to prepare. Clinicals won't start until week 7 or 8 if your program is similarly structured. The first handful of weeks are learning skills to prepare for clinicals ? during the first 7 weeks we had one day in person and an optional Friday open lab which I would definitely utilize to your full advantage!

I was just accepted for Spring 2024! If there is any group chats to join please let me know! ?

Hi! I know this is very random and irrelevant to this chat but did you by chance get into CSUN for the Summer of 2024 or waitlisted to the program? Thank you! ?

Hello All,

Can anyone share their stats or of current/previous cohorts? I'm curious about a few things:

Professional/Education Background, GPA, Extracurriculars

Current class size, typical week, pros/cons so far, any information you think would be helpful for a prospective applicant.

Thanks you!

Did anyone apply to Summer 24? Do you guys know when they will have a decision?

They rolled my app from last term to Summer (they told me they didn't have room for me last term). I asked and they said they are reviewing apps in January and should have decisions in February.

Really wow I was thinking we wouldn't hear from them until like April LOL. Goodluck!

I also applied for Summer 2024, but have not heard anything yet.

Just got accepted into Summer 24! Let me know if there are any group chats to join!?

Congrats!! I got in for Summer 24 as well. Thinking about deferring by one term but need to think about it before Friday when our decision is due.

Congrats guys! Summer will be the last trimester for the inaugural cohort!

As for group chats, I would highly recommend orchestrating a group me chat. That's what my cohort uses. We set it up on orientation day and utilized that til we got Discord up and running and now we use both.

Student Gov / SNA will be at your orientation to help facilitate both of those things as well :]

How does the financial aid work for this program?
Tried to ask during info session and they pointed me to financial aid. I'll call them tomorrow but thought I'd ask the people with firsthand experience. So, how exactly does it work when it's a graduate one year program? I remember in undergrad, they would give you an award amount for the year and disperse half of it each semester. Do they also do the same thing in a graduate program where they tell you an award amount for the year and then disperse it three times a year? How early before the semester starts do they tell you what your bill is? When do they disburse funds, etc.? I have already submitted my FAFSA as well.
If anyone can also talk about their experience taking loans, not only for the cost of tuition, but for the cost of attendance, that would be super helpful too. Any info really would be super helpful. Not too much out there for grad student financial aid info. Thank you!
