University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) DEMSN - Direct Entry Generalist MSN

Updated:   Published

Hello! I made this forum to connect with applicants or those planning to apply to UNLV's new MSN program for those with a non-nursing degree. Does anyone know when they'll start reviewing applications? It doesn't say on the website whether it is a rolling admission or not.

Did you apply? I would love to attend this program. I am wondering how competitive it is. Please up with any new info.

Hello! I did submit my application already. As for how competitive it is, I'm sure there isn't any information on it yet because it's a new program. UNLV's BSN program is extremely competitive and almost everyone who applies has straight A's on their pre-requisites.

They had an ABSN program that is currently on hold despite being fairly new as well and from what I heard, that program wasn't that competitive. I'm thinking that this MSN program would probably be the same as not many people know about it yet.

I know they still have more information sessions that you can attend and they can probably answer more questions :))

Hi. Did you receive a response regarding your application? I recently applied but haven't heard back.

Hey, everybody! Just commenting to stay on this thread as I applied to this program as well.

I was accepted into two of my top schools and waitlisted into one, but I still want to weigh out my options with UNLV.

Their admissions office said that we should hear back mid-August.

Hear back in August? Dnt the fall semester start in August? Does anyone know if they take online prereqs?

@Chyna They said during the info session that it starts in September- but yeah I also received an email saying that they won't be sending out decisions until mid-August.

I know they take online prereqs from what I remember. A couple of my courses were online because I took them when everything was online due to the pandemic. I would ask just to be sure tho.

@jdn038 May I ask where else you applied to if you don't mind sharing? I also applied to two other schools and also got in, maybe we applied to the same ones :))

Hi! I am planning to apply to the UNLV program this fall, so I came across this thread. I was wondering if I might ask what your stats looked like applying, as you said you got into two other schools! I have a 3.5 right now in neuroscience but have no healthcare experience at the moment to supplement my application, and I am trying to get a general idea of what most applicants have in terms of experience. Thanks, and good luck with your admission!

@ah6319 My GPA is 3.49 and I graduated at UNLV and did my prereqs there too. I have a little over a year of healthcare experience, and I'm also currently volunteering at a hospital. I'm not sure how important experience is for UNLV's DEMSN. I know that they don't look at that at all for their regular BSN. Do you currently attend UNLV? Good luck as well!!

I applied but my GPA is not as high and it looks like I will have a B in Microbiology. Are the other programs you applied to also online direct entry? If so, would you be willing to share, please? I need to start applying for backup programs.
thanks.

@RNfairy I wouldn't sweat the B in microbio. I had a couple B's in my prereqs. I know UNLV's program isn't online. The other programs I applied to are Marquette's DEMSN (they have in person and hybrid) and SLU's AMSN (it's only in person)- both are direct entry. From my research and what I've gathered, Marquette's program is really competitive- I've been told by the advisor that they get around 400-500 applicants and only accept 90. I know SLU is also pretty competitive, especially their ABSN. However, don't let that scare you. My suggestion is to have good letter of recs and write a really strong statement of purpose.

UNLV DEMSN isn't online?? My understanding was that all courses were online and I would need to be in LV 1-2 a week for clinical? Oh no! I have only talked with someone in grad admissions though.
