University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) DEMSN - Direct Entry Generalist MSN

Updated:   Published

Hello! I made this forum to connect with applicants or those planning to apply to UNLV's new MSN program for those with a non-nursing degree. Does anyone know when they'll start reviewing applications? It doesn't say on the website whether it is a rolling admission or not.

Are we allowed to defer our Summer admission to fall? If so, has anyone confirmed this with nursing admissions?

I emailed and they said they do not offer deferment for this program. ?

Aw man, so no other options? Also, has anyone ever used portage learning and if that's accepted?

Thanks for keeping up with my questions

I was able to defer my summer24 start to fall 24. My case might be different tho because I had emailed admission a month prior to decision making, asking them to roll over my application from summer24 to fall24. So when I got accepted for the Summer start, I just emailed them back stating that I had previously asked to be rolled over so they went ahead and offered me a fall start acceptance letter.
hope that helps.

In the welcome packet it says to email our headshot to them by march 1st, but they didn't specify. Does anyone know if we need like a specific background or if we need to get them done at like walgreens or something?

Hi, I think the background just needs to be a plain, neutral color like a white or tan. I do not believe you need to get it done at walgreens or anything as long as it is able to look mostly professional and someone else takes it for you so it is not a selfie or something and is done in a place with decent lighting.

Hi guys and congrats to those that got accepted. I got accepted this am also for Summer 24 cohort but I will be deffering to fall 24. I need time to get my affairs in check.

How was y'all GPA looking like when selected ? Trying to see smth.  As for me, I had few B's and A's and still taking some pre'reqs so I will say my GPA was around 3.5 not counting the missing courses which must finish them prior to starting nursing school.

I strongly believe that selection is heavy on personal statement and that STAR method interview we took.

Hi, my GPA was around a 3.4 but I had extenuating circumstances contributing to my GPA not being as high as it should've been that I discussed in my essay which probably helped. I also had over 500 hours volunteering in hospitals, and experience working in hospitals. As well as licenses such as EMT license, and phlebotomy license which probably helped with my acceptance.

For those who are already in the program are any of you working while completing the program? If so is it manageable? I know a lot of nursing schools either say working while in the program is not allowed or try to discourage it, but I have no other choice besides continuing to work so I was curious if anyone else was doing the same and how difficult it is to manage and navigate it.

Hello! I just got accepted into the Fall '24 cohort and was wondering which hospitals were used for clinicals?

Thank you!
