University of British Columbia (UBC) BSN September 2016 Applicants

Published

For all of us applying to UBC's BSN 2016 program, let's communicate, share and give encouragement to one another throughout the process.

I just submitted my general UBC application to get the ball rolling early, and it already gave me access to get started on my supplemental application. This is my second time applying, so I hope to do a better job on my app this year and at least get an interview. But I have also accepted that this may not be my fate and I have other options.

Incidentally, to others who also applied previously: I phoned to make sure all my transcripts were still on file, and they are not! UBC admissions discards everything from last year. So I have six transcripts to send in again (including high school). Expensive and time consuming, and also seems a little crazy in the age of computers that they didn't keep electronic copies. But, we do what we have to do... Good luck everyone!

I hope people still keep coming to the forum even after the facebook group gets set up. I dont have facebook, and in all honesty really would love to stay off of it (not for paranoid anonymity reasons, just havent found it adds to peoples lives)...

The Facebook group is closed (not public), so everything you say is only between those who ask to join the closed group (as opposed to this completely public forum). One person has set up a account using a pseudonym specifically for the group. It has so far given us an opportunity to introduce ourselves and start to get to know one another.

Hi Beaker1, I opened the doodle app to give it a look, currently it's extremely laggy and is displaying 207 participants...I have a feeling that the doubling up issue hasnt been resolved. I received a confirmation of interview email directly from Ruxandra yesterday after emailing her to confirm. Its a hunch, but I think Doodle has created a bit of a backlog of emails that need responding to before sending out another wave of emails... I could be wrong, but am hopeful for more good news for everyone.

Nada today. Hopefully I will find out something by the 31st. Anyone nervously refreshing the mail box like me? Anyone know other 3 year or 2 year programs in BC other than Langara and BCIT?

Kwantlen (KPU) has a 27 month Post Baccalaureate program. Applications open Nov 1 and you have to have completed your degree by the time the program starts (Sept intake), and all Anatomy & Physiology classes finished by March 31st. From what I understand, it's basically a first come, first served application process. It's a blended program, so some of it is at their Langley campus and some is online. This 2+ year program is fairly new (2012), but I took a personal tour of their facility and it's very nice with simulation labs that, according to the UBC advisor, are envied by UBC. Of course, you should verify everything I have said.

Did they send back confirmation e-mails? (Tuesday). :)

I received a confirmation email yesterday mid afternoon.

This forum has been extremely helpful! Thank you everyone for all of the information, it has allowed me to relax and focus on final term papers and projects!

Thanks for the input about the value of joining the facebook group Julianth, you definitely have many good points. I think I will join if I get my final acceptance to UBC nursing. I am very much looking forward to getting to know everyone on a face to face basis.

This FB group is strictly for interviewees. Those who are accepted will almost certainly form a new group and the interview FB group will be deleted after all final offers are sent out. It's sad that we can't all get in...

It is extremely sad that we all cant get in...I agree.

It'll be important for those who get in and become nurses to remember this feeling, and to remember the people who didnt get in when it comes time to volunteer to be preceptors for students. Maybe someday, everyone who deserves to be a nurse can become a nurse.

My fingers are crossed for those who are waiting for the interviews! the deadline to accept the interview was 48 minutes ago! Wait for that second wave to come in!

I got my confirmation for my interview time and I think it's because I signed up twice on doodle.

annnd I agree with @NERVOUS IN VAN . We should definitely remember this feeling :D

To be honest, I have a feeling this year that our application (supplemental & GPA) is worth more than the interview. Previous years' interviews sounded really intense and condensing each interview into 15 minutes over Skype leads me to believe it may not be weighted as much this year. Perhaps they just want to see that we reflect our applications. I'm still going to prep lots but I think we should all be really proud of ourselves that we got this far with our applications!

Could anyone check how many slots are filled? Thank you in advance :)
