For all of us applying to UBC's BSN 2016 program, let's communicate, share and give encouragement to one another throughout the process.
I just submitted my general UBC application to get the ball rolling early, and it already gave me access to get started on my supplemental application. This is my second time applying, so I hope to do a better job on my app this year and at least get an interview. But I have also accepted that this may not be my fate and I have other options.
Incidentally, to others who also applied previously: I phoned to make sure all my transcripts were still on file, and they are not! UBC admissions discards everything from last year. So I have six transcripts to send in again (including high school). Expensive and time consuming, and also seems a little crazy in the age of computers that they didn't keep electronic copies. But, we do what we have to do... Good luck everyone!
Hi everyone, I ll be applying next intake, and i'm scared ******** that I cannot make it because I had my University from France send my official transcript for my Bachelor of English for which I have a VERY LOW Gpa. However, I have lots to say on my supplemental, i have volunteer work, and work experience. Do you guys think they will throw my application in the garbage as soon as they see my nasty GPA (2.0 at the best)? I was immature back then, that was over 10 years ago, and recently I took all pre-requisite courses for Nursing and I am doing fairly well (A, B+). Any insights? Heard UBC admissions were pretty selective, I don't wanna be dumped at that point before even having the chance to showcase other strengths with the school of nursing....
Hello freelikeair, I know that UBC admissions will be looking at the sum of your last 30 upper level credits, most likely the ones that are transferable to UBC (like your pre-requisites), you best bet is to get a hold of Ruxandra Vasiljevic at UBC and pass it by her. You may have to take some UBC transferable courses via distance education (Atabasca University has great on-line programs for that) to augment the GPA of your last 30 credits...be sure they are upper level and UBC transferrable...hope this helps.
Hey NERVOUS IN VAN, thanks for your response! I have 20 credits for my prereqs, and 180 credits from my University in France (which are transferrable), I would love to show only part of my 180 credits, to only showcase my good grades, however when you show them a transcript, they will see all the grades... is there a way to show only a few grades, (the good ones?) Have you ever done something similar or know if that's doable? Thanks!!!!
They will only care about those last 30 credits (usually 10 courses), so don't worry about the rest of your degree. Even if you're at the bottom of the minimum for grades, you may still blow them away with your supplemental application. I believe grades are weighted at about 40%, so the rest is your experience and how you present yourself. I would also recommend making an appoint with the UBC School of Nursing Adviser, either in person or over the phone. They can help you understand where you should focus your attention.

Hi happy_gal
Thanks for the response. Your message really clarified many things. I got an admission in Toronto ( I am residing in Toronto currently) for the same program and I chose UBC as I preferred it for the reputation the university holds in Canada.
Finally, I feel would not regret my decision coming to UBC.
