University of British Columbia (UBC) BSN September 2016 Applicants

Published

For all of us applying to UBC's BSN 2016 program, let's communicate, share and give encouragement to one another throughout the process.

I just submitted my general UBC application to get the ball rolling early, and it already gave me access to get started on my supplemental application. This is my second time applying, so I hope to do a better job on my app this year and at least get an interview. But I have also accepted that this may not be my fate and I have other options.

Incidentally, to others who also applied previously: I phoned to make sure all my transcripts were still on file, and they are not! UBC admissions discards everything from last year. So I have six transcripts to send in again (including high school). Expensive and time consuming, and also seems a little crazy in the age of computers that they didn't keep electronic copies. But, we do what we have to do... Good luck everyone!

Hey everyone! Looks like there's 214 signed up for the interview currently. So I believe if people don't accept their interview invitation by the predetermined date they go down the list of qualified candidates and send out more interview invitations. It seems as though this is very likely to happen seeing as how in previous years they were still sending out invitations into the beginning of April. I'm crossing my fingers for all of you still waiting!

I actually have the feeling that the interview participant numbers on doodle are significantly higher than the actual invites sent out, it seems a high proportion had to resubmit their date and time, thereby doubling up the number of participants displayed. I have a feeling there is at least 50 more invites that will be going out, so to those waiting for an interview...refresh, refresh, refresh...my fingers and toes remain crossed for you.

Refreshed my e-mail so many times already, its not even 10am yet lol

Hi beaker1, I wouldn't stress out as people who received offers do not need to let the school know until March 30. So I would say second wave of interviews will go out after the 30th. Best of luck

I'm still finding it hard to believe that all of this is going to come down to a 15 minute on-line interview...stressful...although they would be more stressful, I sort of wish we were doing the MMIs like before...15 minutes feels like such little time...my interview is on the 14th...preparation, preparation, preparation...

"There are 200(something) interviewees for this program. Why should we pick you"?

I highly think that this is one of the questions. haha #ClassicJobInterview

I hope people still keep coming to the forum even after the facebook group gets set up. I dont have facebook, and in all honesty really would love to stay off of it (not for paranoid anonymity reasons, just havent found it adds to peoples lives)...

Are you comfortable with interviews and/or public speaking?

Yup, almost certain the "why should we pick you?" question will be there...one classic interview question Ive always loved is "what are your weaknesses?". I think well have one common sense question and one that will throw us for a loop...I could be wrong, I could be right.

Im very comfy with interviews and presentations... I used to be a pharmaceutical representative for Bayer and did at least 5 presentations a day to medical staff, but this presentation will be very different. Just not a fan of the facebook.

I think that was the original format when they first started interviewing applicants.

"What are your strengths/weaknesses etc etc"

They could be going back to that format. Who knows.

I think there has one ethical question in there too... they need to flush out whether or not we bring any baggage not conducive to being a good nurse.
