University of Alberta Nursing After Degree 2015

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

I thought it would be beneficial to start up a thread for those who applied to the UofA After Degree program for 2015. I noticed that one hasn't been started yet.

I applied to the program but I am still waiting on a reply. Has anyone heard back from admissions as of yet?

All the best to everyone!!!

Oh my goodness I got accepted too!!! Yay! I never received an email about it. I just had one of the biting faculty email me saying I noticed you just got accepted do you still want the spot! And my bear tracks changes! Is there that Facebook group?

Hey guys,

So here's the group number for the Facebook group.

facebookcom/groups/392503010949404

I graduated in the philippines with bachelor Of science in nursing degree

i submitted all the requirements to the u of alberta, however When i checked my beartracks it says im "not competitive"

can anyone clarify the meaning of this or is there anyone here have the same status that I got after passing those, since they didnt send me a detail why.

is it because having only a four year study in highschool affects my admission process?

that is why i was denied?

thanks a lot.

@rolanpriela

'not competitive' would mean that while you meet the minimum AGPA, your GPA doesn't meet the GPA cut-off that UofA has. Since there are only so many seats (I believe approx 150, don't quote me on this), they have to consider the GPAs of all the applicants and rank them from highest to lowest and establish a cut-off (which may be ~3.5, again don't quote me on that). If after the conversion, your GPA is below the cut-off, then they would say your GPA is 'not competitive'.

Your high school has no bearing whatsoever on your application (assuming you've applied to the After Degree Program), because all they will look at is the last year of your degree and your GPA for that year.

Thanks jamay10,

So if that is the reason in my case, does that mean that I should re-apply for the next semester/ next year? or is there any way better than that in your opinion?

Thank you so much for responding to my comment jamay10.

That really depends on what your GPA was and maybe on a few factors. Have you tried contacting a student advisor at the Faculty of Nursing? They would have a better insight on what you should do. But be prepared to take extra courses to boost your AGPA to get your marks competitive enough for ANY application cycle. Also, if you are an Internationally Educated Nurse, have you looked at what steps are necessary to practice in Alberta/Canada?

Hi rolanpriela

I also have an international bachelors degree in nursing and i am looking forward to apply to u o a after degree nursing program for next fall 2016 session.

Can you please tell me-

Did you apply to after degree nursing program and were you required to do all prerequisites?

What was your gpa and how much was the cut off for this fall session?

your advice is appreciated.thanks

Did you guys have to write any supplementary material when applying to U of A for the After Degree Program?

Anything about writing a personal statement?

The application process for 2016 isn't up yet and I wanted to prepare

Unfortunately for me,

The Student Advisor told me that I wasn't competitive because I didn't reached their bracket of 3.3 AGPA(B+) or higher.

3.3 AGPA is their average and I only got 3.2.

They told me to Study courses to increase my AGPA chances of getting accepted into the program. They haven't mention what kind of studies will I proceed on to. But that is what I have asked them.

I didnt apply for any pre requisities yet. You only need to submit all the documents coming from your university before they assess it for any pre requisite courses. You need to pass the ESL test (like IELTS) just checked all the requirements they asked in their website.

Then they will tell you if you are Competitive or Not compettive based on the average. This 2015 term, their average requirement for AGPA is 3.3 (B+). All my grades from the university I had, amounts only to 3.2. They told me to study courses so I could reach 3.3 or higher next 2016, If i wanted to get into the program. tparno, you dont need to write any supplemental material or any personal statement, you only need to submit all the requirements they asked.

We should start a 2016 thread for some of us who will be applying next year so that we can encourage each other.

My degree is from the US in Communications.

I will have to retake my Microbiology and Physiology to get an A so that I am very competitive.

What are you undergraduate degrees in? And does anyone know how many people are accepted for the After Degree program in Edmonton?

Hi Everybody,

I plan to apply now for next year. I am not aware that there will be a AGPA. I hope that it would not be a problem. I could not find the FB page for those who are in the UofA After Degree program. Help? Anybody?

thanks!
