Hi everyone!
I thought it would be beneficial to start up a thread for those who applied to the UofA After Degree program for 2015. I noticed that one hasn't been started yet.
I applied to the program but I am still waiting on a reply. Has anyone heard back from admissions as of yet?
All the best to everyone!!!
Hi Everybody,I plan to apply now for next year. I am not aware that there will be a AGPA. I hope that it would not be a problem. I could not find the FB page for those who are in the UofA After Degree program. Help? Anybody?
thanks!
I think a Facebook page is only for those students who have been accepted and most of them are closed groups.
Have you done all your pre-reqs? What is your undergraduate degree in?

I have spoken with a UofA advisor earlier today and I have informed her that I already have the perquisites taken as part of what I have finished in my undergraduate studies. She added that if I wish to retake it I may do so (like a refresher since it's been a while).
My undergraduate degree is B.S. Psychology and B.S. Nursing. I had a few units from my Master of Arts in Nursing (although I am not sure if they will consider adding this). Both degrees are international.
Hi rolan ,
Thanks so much for the valuable information. i already had my ielts requirement fulfilled , i just applied to after degree nursing for next fall 2016 , my application is under evaluation for generating the to do list, lets see ,hope for the best .
i wish you also good luck and do keep in touch and please advise us if u will be applying again for next fall 2016.
Yes i applied for the next session 2016 after degree nursing , the application opened up few days back.
I am not sure but when i spoke to an advisor in faculty of nursing , she said they can give early conditional admission if everything is appropriate.
Its the waiting game , good luck to u and its a good idea to start a thread for 2016 prospective students for after degree nursing program. Can you please advise us how to do that?

You may be making a huge mistake in believing your previous education will meet requirements for admission. The university may not recognize your prerequisites as equivalent to Canadian education. Others have been complacent about their internationally obtained credits only to be disappointed and angry when told they'll have to take more classes before meeting entry requirements. I hope for your sake that your education is recognized.

I have to agree. U of A would need to take a look at the course description for the courses you've previously taken and compare it to the prereq courses. I would suggest talking to the student advisor for course equivalencies sooner than later. I have a minor in Biological Sciences and took Microbiology as a requirement for my minor. However, I still had to take the Medical Microbiology prereq the program needed.
Good news is that 2016 applicants still have a lot of time to take prereqs if needed and do some academic upgrading if your AGPA (admission grade point average - w/c at U of A is the last and most recent 24 credits taken) falls below the minimum. I wish all of the 2016 applicants the best of luck. If you guys have some questions on the U of A application, PM me. I'll try to answer them to the best of my knowledge and abilities :)
I guess I don't have the ability to reply to PMs yet because I'm fairly new to posting (longtime lurker). So, for the those with International Degrees this is my take (opinion only):
Since you have an International degree, I would speak to an advisor, likely International Admissions (International Admissions in the Office of the Registrar at (780) 492-3113) to see if any of the courses you took match up with the course description/syllabus of the prerequisites. Alternatively you could contact the Faculty of Nursing and speak to the Student Advisor there.
Depending on how competitive your Admission GPA is (I guess this year was a 3.3+, based on the last 24 credits taken), redoing courses might be a good idea to make you more competitive and in order to get early conditional acceptance. Furthermore, refreshers aren't a bad idea either especially if it's been quite some time since you've been in school. Of course there is a cost attached to this, but I would consider it as an investment.
The wait is going to be long for the 2016 intake, but you will at least have plenty of time to get your ducks in a row.
I hope this helped. :)
Hi There! I am looking at applying for 2016 intake at U of A and am wondering if anyone could answer some questions for me.
I have a degree in Business with a 3.22 GPA, I am currently enrolled to take the pre-reqs with Athabasca (Micro, anatomy, physiology and a few others starting in September. I'm worried that my GPA will be too low from my degree to even be considered. If I do well in the courses I am taking, say at least a 3.5 will these come into effect when deciding whether or not my GPA is good enough for the program?
I have tried to ask the program advisor from U of A a few questions and he has not been helpful at all.
Any insight or help with this would be really appreciated!
Thanks :)

hi rolan, when did you apply and how soon did you learn that you were deemed not competitive? What actions are you doing right now to raise your AGPA? Are you still gona pursue this program? Thanks!
