University of Alberta Nursing After Degree 2015

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

I thought it would be beneficial to start up a thread for those who applied to the UofA After Degree program for 2015. I noticed that one hasn't been started yet.

I applied to the program but I am still waiting on a reply. Has anyone heard back from admissions as of yet?

All the best to everyone!!!

Unfortunately for me, U of A is the only school I've applied to because I can't really go anywhere far (kids, home, hubby's work). I was pretty confident I'd get my acceptance last April or so because I meet the req and with my AGPA... but since it's taken this long, it's surely taken the wind out of my sail. If I don't get in this year, I'll be ok with waiting for next fall. The time will certainly help with me finding a suitable caregiver for my kids (4 & 6). Notwithstanding, an acceptance or any decision for that matter, would be appreciated. The wait is killing me. :dead:

Congrats to all those got accepted! And for all those waiting, I hope you get in! I was hoping to start a Facebook group for the Class of 2017. Let me know if any of you guys would be interested. If so, please message me your email/facebook name so I can add you to the group.

Has a FB group been started yet?

@jamay10

I'm in the same boat with you.

U of a is the only one choice for me (kids and husband's work).

I feel exactly same with you.

Since decision takes way longer than expected,,I wish I could hear back from school either way(admitted or not).

I also have three kids(10,7 and 5)@@ and am concerned with my age(probably the oldest in the class :( )

I'm thinking other ways (lpn or MacEwan in Jan)

I hope everyone also hears back soon.

Oy! So I finally heard back from U of A, of course after a few phone calls. My status went from 'decisions pending' to 'requires action' in a week. Turns out they needed a set of transcripts that said I earned my degree. That's the only thing they are waiting on now and is thankfully on the way. My conditonal acceptance is finally going to be cleared by Monday or Tuesday.

Anyone else hear back regarding their application?

@ candicej

When I spoke to the advisor, they said that they are completely backed up. Couldn't tell me what the GPA cutoff was, but I think the competitive GPA might be the same as previously mentioned (3.5). I would call and follow up to see what the status is of your application. Don't call the Reg Office as they are limited in what they could do. Besides, the Faculty of Nursing makes the decision anyway. I am rooting for you! Age is just a number and is irrelevant next to skill, knowledge, and experience. Good luck!

@jamay10

Congratulations to you.

I appreciate your sincere concern .

You mean it would help I call Nursing Faculty itself.

Do they know more than what is said on the my u of a online account,which says "decision pending".

Frankly speaking, I'm running out of my patience.

I'm thinking Lpn at norquest or macewan 2016 winter intake (which would be more competitive I guess)

Anyway, I will call nursing faculty. Did you just ask what your status is regardless of what is said on online account?

Thank you jamay,again :)

Hope for everyone else who are waiting.

@candicej

yes, sorry, I meant call the Faculty of Nursing and speak to the advisor there. I think that if it says decision pending on your application, the Reg Office would have already submitted all your documents to the Faculty. I'm glad I called because there were a few things that were missed (ie prereqs I took at U of A 8 yrs ago) by the RO and noted as 'not taken'. I was worried about the hold-ups to my application due to the document deadlines. I made sure I told the advisor (she was so helpful) my concern and that I met all the requirements needed. Essentially I just made it easier for the Faculty to make the decision by gving them some more info that they needed (AGPA, prereqs, Grad date).

If youare set set on possibly going to Macewan, they take first come first serve, so apply as soon as it opens (i think you'll find out your UofA status beforehand).

@jamay10

I just called nursing faculty but they didn't say a lot about me.

The big difference of me from you is my degree is international.

They say they are processing now and since my degree is international, it would take more.

Anyway just calling makes me patient.

Thanks

Hi everyone! I'm so glad I found this thread :). I've been waiting and waiting for my transcripts to arrive at the UofA. I received my degree just on June 15th from Grant Mac and they sent my transcripts over on the 29th! My application still says "this application needs action" and it's incredibly nerve-racking. Is anyone else still painfully waiting for their transcripts to arrive??

Good luck to everyone!

I was waiting for them to receive my transcripts too. I sent them over on June 29th as well via courier service. Checked my beartracks today and it is now "decision pending." I reckon you might see a change in your beartracks status soon :)

My status changed today to 'decision pending' as well. Does anyone know the current GPA cutoff?

I finally got notification that I was accepted! That was sure a long process! I got an email today as well as my bear tracks was updated to accepted. Bear tracks showed decision pending for 2-3 weeks.
