Hi my name is Maria, I'm currently in the process for applying to Unitek in Bakersfield. I'm simply posting to see if anyone else was in the same boat.

Hi, I’m new here and planning to enroll on a nursing program. Is unitek better than sjvc? Does anyone have an idea of the cost for the RN program?  Thanks

I started the lvn program at Unitek SJ and was told 12 to 14 students max per class. There’s a total of 38 of us in the same class right now. The teacher looks about 32 years old and sounds like she doesn’t want to be there with a monotone voice and does not answer questions when you message her on the zoom. It’s too late to get my money back.

San Diego has so many colleges that offer LVN-RN! Check out international college of health science. They don’t require TEAS and they are fully accredited. You can transfer/endorse your license to CA. It’s 100% online with clinal in Miami. It’s combined, so 2 weeks clinicals. 2x in 15 months. Or something like that.

You will never get your RN in California with online and/or out-of-state school. Even some other states might accept and let you have the license, California will not reciprocate that license.

That is not entirely true.  Good post though.  They will have to make up the classes and hours they owe to CA, but that might require a lot of work.

There are lots of unsophisticated pre-nursing students here, so let make it simple. don't do the online/out-of-state if you want to practice in California. Even the well-know school like Excelsior College, or brick-and-mortar state school like Indiana State can't offer their online program to California students.

I have a BSN.  Get off your high horse.  You're not surgeon, you're a nurse.  With that said, if the school she was attending switched to an online format because of COVID, he or she might have to make up those hours or classes online.  Check your ego at the login buddy.  You are not that important.

I think we are in the same class that started Dec 14.

Yes, 36k+ for the LVN program is a lots, and at 40 students in the class Unitek is making good $$$

I don't expect classes at Unitek will be as fun and at par with community college like Mission College, or state university like San Jose State ... but it gives me the chance to do it part-time and in the evening ... so I can still work and do the program.

The school is trying hard giving the student all the tools and opportunities. I got all the necessary books, ATI online for NCLEX prep and all other bells and whistles for clinical: scrubs, scopes ... so it's up to me to make it works for me.

There is a young kid in the class and he will graduate from high-school next year. I think he is much smarter choosing Unitek to start out than my daughter who tried for the past 3 years to get into the nursing program at SJSU. Maybe he will struggle with waking up at 7am on Saturday, maybe he will failed the NCLEX a few times, but he is going to be working as a nurse much earlier than my daughter.

And guess this. I enlisted in the California National Guard, giving 1 weekend a month for the past 3 years, and now the Guard is giving me 18k per year for 4 year to get my nursing license ... so I won't pay that much out-of-pocket.

? I am not even a nurse yet, just started my evening, part-time LVN program last Monday.

High-five to your BSN!

A BSN is not difficult to get and the NCLEX is not hard to pass.  A lot of people do it.  If you don't believe me, check out the link.

Out of curiosity.  Why don't you just do your RN at a community college?  It is a lot cheaper than UNITEK and the chances of those schools closing or losing their accreditation is less likely.  My opinion, go somewhere else.  Cheers!

That came out wrong.  I received a BSN from a school that said I would be able to work in CA without taking additional classes, etc.  After graduation, they notified us that only compact states accept this education for licensure.  My school was not an online school.  We had clinical rotations at big hospitals.  A school that is completely online will not work in CA, and she would lose her money.  I am waiting from the board to tell me what I have to take if I have to take anything at all to be compliant.  If the admissions person was honest to begin with, because she knew, I would have went to another program.  Let me see if I can delete that comment.

I understand now, I found out about the school from a friend of mine who is currently in the program and she has friends who have graduated from the program and are actively working as RNs in California they took the NCLEX in Florida and had the license endorsed in California and based on that, I believed that the school was a legitimate, fully accredited RN program. And majority of the students that were enrolled in the program were from California.
