Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi my name is Maria, I'm currently in the process for applying to Unitek in Bakersfield. I'm simply posting to see if anyone else was in the same boat.

Specializes in M.A 13 years currently enrolled in VN.

I am suppose to do mine at the San Jose site but in November because that is the next part time evening available date.

Why did they want you to retake prerequisites?

I applied once at the Bakersfield campus. I was accepted Monday the program started in August. The cost was increased for the first semester, but the overall cost wasn’t increased. the Bakersfield Program is less than the northern campus programs. I am in the AP path for the BSN.

When did you get accepted and when do you start?
You said you got accepted this Monday but you start in August? Am I reading it right ?

I heard Gurnick academy lies to their prospective students promising them entrance into their LVN to RN program if the students complete the pre-reqs at their school.  KEEP IN MIND, GURNICK TRANSCRIPTS WILL NOT TRANSFER TO ANY COMMUNITY OR STATE COLLEGE FOR THE REGISTERED NURSING PROGRAM!!  If you don't get admission into their LVN to RN bridge, after wasting all that money on doing the prereqs at their school, you CANNOT transfer those credits to another school.

I looked into it, and I have friends that were promised admission into their program, only to find out after spending close to $10k on pre reqs, that they will not be in their LVN to RN program even after passing the TEAS test and scoring really high.  My opinon, and something I just recently learned, The International College of Health Science.  This school is based in Florida.  It is a hybrid/online learning base.  $35k, you can get your RN license and have it endorsed in California or whatever state you live in.  No waiting list, no waiting to see if you got accepted, no lottery, no interview, no being put on the back burner till someone drops out.  And ICHS is 15 months, and you're done!  Don't waste your money trying to be an RN in California, just do your research about this LVN to RN bridge program, and make your decision.  My friend told me about this program because I was stressing out over the stupid TEAS test, and possibly being put on a waiting list if I don't get into SJVC LVN to RN bridge.  She is in the program and is doing good.  Due to COVID, she is not expected to travel to Florida for clinical.  She just gets her clinical signed off at her job, because she works with RN's already.  If there was no COVID, you would need to travel to Florida 2 times per semester for one week for clinical rotation.  This school is based in Boynton, Florida, and is fully accredited. Don't waste your time and money anywhere else! Get that RN license, and move on with your life.  I hate TEAS, I feel like its the school's way to make extra money off us!

This school has over 1400 students that are enrolled in the LVN to RN ASN program.

I wish I had known about this sooner, like last year, I would have been an RN by now.

Hi, I’m new here and planning to enroll on a nursing program. Is unitek better than sjvc? Does anyone have an idea of the cost for the RN program?  Thanks

I have decided to go with Unitek since I am really looking into a two year LVN to BSN program and it mainly being online has sold me!! Everything seems to be going well, just need to retake my TEAS and take micro (set to take thru SCU in Jan). BPina said I could start as soon as April.

For those in the program already , any feedback??? I am choosing this school over Grand Canyon because it is mainly online and I am a single, working mom. I live in San Diego and I understand that I will need to fly out for clinicals.

I heard the BSN is over $100k! Why would you pay that??? You can just get your RN at ICHS in Miami for $36k,  or local college for 10k, then BSN for $20-30k!

first find out if the school is WASC accredited. Very important!!  If not, non of your transcripts will be valid at any college if you want your masters. You should also check to see if hospitals will hire you with a BSN from Unitek.

San Diego has so many colleges that offer LVN-RN! Check out international college of health science. They don’t require TEAS and they are fully accredited. You can transfer/endorse your license to CA. It’s 100% online with clinal in Miami. It’s combined, so 2 weeks clinicals. 2x in 15 months. Or something like that.

Hey LVN_Flower, The schools here in SD are very limited in how many students they take. For example, Southwestern college (where I graduated from with my LVN) takes 10 at most LVN to RN students and that's only if enough ADN students either drop or fail their semester. NU is based highly on TEAS and GPA, Miracosta is waiting list, and so on.

As far as hospitals hiring based on school you attended, they don't care. As long as you pass boards then that's what counts. I was reading up on ICHS and it seems like they really trap students to keep them in their program. That sounds very scary.

Hi Maria

I applied unitek Bakersfield back in April and is esay to get into the BSN program, I heard the admission rep said they don't have much applicants so is less competitive compare to Fremont campus. I got accepted to the BSN program however I declined the offer because my interest rate for the student loan was too high. I got my LVN license from Fremont campus back in 2013.

May I ask what is the cost for this LVN to BSN program?

You will never get your RN in California with online and/or out-of-state school. Even some other states might accept and let you have the license, California will not reciprocate that license.

@LVN_Flower if ICHS truly has over 1400 students enrolled in the ASN program and according to FLORIDA BON, only 10 student were allowed to take the NCLEX this year then, that is a huge red flag! ???
