I wouldn't go way over the min. That's odd to have a minimum and no maximum. I like the gift basket idea. When they have sales, which I'm sure they will tomorrow, you can get a huge amount of stuff reasonably cheap. If you know she drinks you can grab a bottle of wine to go in there too and tell her you're giving her a relaxing evening. I think it's great that you chose to participate. These things are what makes you really feel like part of the unit.
Anything over the minimum is brown nosing. The gift itself should be simple. I am giving all of my coworkers candles, stationery, and a pair of cozy socks.
This is true!
And you could be putting your boss in an embarrassing & awkward position if you go over. And your peers will also notice.
Keep the intent of the season.
Well as far as hygiene gift baskets I would stay away from those. I've seen on several occasions people get offended when getting a gift basket with lotion, soap, etc. I personally like them but that's just me. I would get a gc to a department store like Macy's, Dillard's, Nordstom or somewhere similar. If you know she likes makeup may a card for Sephora or Ulta. Or if she is improving her house Lowes or Home Depot. I would keep it general.

So it's around that time of year and our secret santa event will be on the 5th.
I decided to participate, reluctantly, and drew my freaking boss
. Mind you, I am new to the unit.
Picking something for her will be easy since she is rather girly, like me. The issue is, what amount is okay to spend? The set minimum is 25.00; that is the only rule. Now, I want to spend a little more than that because, no offense to anyone else, but I'm not a cheapskate, but I don't know how much is too much and what would make me look like a kiss a**.
Help? Any suggestions or personal experiences with this would be wonderful.
Thanks dolls!
