Uniforms

Nurses General Nursing

Published

When I started at my facility I was forced to buy their uniforms even though I had my own that color that I liked better. I was told that the uniforms were a benefit because they were sold to us for $26. Later I transferred to another unit that wore another color so there went another $26. Now a year and a half later they said that whoops they made a mistake. Those uniforms are only leased to us for $26 a year and that we must turn in the old ones and purchase as a lease another $26 uniform set or be charged $52 if we leave without returning the uniforms.

Now I bought mine and sure don't appreciate having to return them. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions of what to do or who to go to? Is there a governing agency over nursing homes?

That just seems retarded.. :)

Is there anyplace else you can PURCHASE the same kind and color uniform from some other place?

Sounds like that place is just ripping ppl off. Big time.

I paid 9 bucks for my top and 13 bucks for the pants, and i get to keep these for life.

Any suggestions of what to do or who to go to?

Maybe another employer?

Seriously, though, do you have a receipt that says they were sold to you? Or a copy of whatever policy they originally gave you that says you have to get your uniforms from them instead of buying them elsewhere?

If not, ask them for a copy of the lease agreement that you signed. If they can't produce it, well....

This is a benefit? I would poll the nurses, and all staff required to wear uniforms and then ask for a meeting with CNO, CEO, and a purchasing agent. If I paid for these uniforms then they would be mine, and they would not deduct 52.00 from my pay. Or, maybe I would work encough overtime to earn 52.00 on my last week there. I would be out the door, asap, if there were other places to work that were less demanding.

There was no receipt of sale but it showed as uniform on the pay stub. I have another friend who suggested a copy of the lease agreement be asked for since that does not exist and I appreciate your suggesting that. I hadn't thought of that.

They are telling me that it was a lease policy all along but the person doing it was selling them instead so those of us who thought we bought our uniforms only leased them.

And yes, the new job was my first thought except that they say they will take out the money for the buying of the uniform for $52 after I have already paid $26 for it. I NEVER pay that much for uniforms. I hit the sale racks and wait until the hosps have them on tables. I have about every color you could imagine in a whole closet full of scrubs and uniform tops. Didn't need to be spending the $26 sure don't want to risk being hit up for $52.

I thought possibly small claims court if they try to take it out.

I would look for a different job that treats their employees better.

I wouldn't try this option unless you are okay with finding another employer! ;)

I would get another job. This type of nickel and dime stuff is ridiculous! Just on principle, I would leave! I would return my uniforms to them, getting a receipt for them, and then claim them on my taxes!

I hope there are other options in your area for you to get work at....

Thank you for your input. I am so overwhelmed that a facility that sells itself as a Christian facility wants to treat employees like this.

It was definite that I would not stay. I have no trust of them whatsoever and have a registry that I work for also and all I have to say is I want shifts and I will have them. It's just that I now have to give them as a gift something that I had to buy from them. They are mine and I should not have to return them. Maybe I should include some raggedy panties as well.

:rotfl: Don't forget a matching bra.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of!

Whoever heard of leasing scrub tops? And for more than it costs to buy them?

These people are just crooked. What are they going to do when they get all the uniforms back- lease used, worn-out clothes to the next batch of unsuspecting employees?

I have all of my scrub tops custom made by a seamstress. I buy fabrics that I like and she makes them into custom scrub tops based on my measurements, for $10. each, which includes a matching hair scrunchie for each top. Much higher quality and workmanship than off the rack scrubs. Better price, too!

For pants- I buy Bobbie Brooks white cotton twill pants for $9.98 a pair at Wal-Mart. You can't see through them and they really last.

As nurses we are supposed to be "professionals" then we get employers who treat us like a bunch of little kids.

LOL! :rotfl: That's great! Maybe they can "lease" those to their new nurse!

Seriously though, I think this organization is crooked, and I know it's not easy to just "get another job"...but in this instance, if I could, I would. Actually working registry is great!.

Good luck to you. :balloons:
