Hello. I am hoping to get into UNF for the summer of 2011. I have taken the TEAS and am taking all of the pre-req courses. I am curious what other people got on their TEAS V and what their Pre-Req GPA is that are also trying to get into the accelerated program this summer. Also, any ideas on what the group interview will be like and what questions will be asked?
18 seat's for BSN accelerated... UNF people first...
Where did you hear that UNF alumni get preference for the accelerated? That was never mentioned in the info session. We were told the following point breakdown determines acceptance: 50% interview / 35% TEAS / 15% prereq GPA. And isn't it 24-30 seats for the accelerated? That would be unfair to give preference to alumni when candidates from other schools present with credentials that are just as competitive.
Hi!I have a question for you all
Do you have to have all of your Pre Reqs completed prior to applying to the BSN program? I have everything except Human Nutrition. Will they accept an application w/o that?
Yes, you are OK with just nutrition outstanding. They require at least 5 out of the 8 prereqs be completed by the time you apply (3 of these 5 should be A&P, micro or chem). The nutrition however needs to be done before you start the BSN.
It says right on the web site that they take 24 for accelerated each summer. It also does say on the regular prelicensure site that they give priority to those with a degree from a Florida school (or those who are transferring from a Florida school with 60+ hours). I did ask about this and it only counts as 1% of the total....the Pre-req GPA counts for 14%. I'm not sure if that applies to accelerated or not.
I emailed "you know who" awhile back asking whether or not a person with 60+ credits was at an advantage over a person who did not have 60 credits. "You know who" said that it was not true. Aslong as you have met the pre-req criteria then you are on a level playing field with the rest of the candidates.

Are you talking about the basic program? Because everyone pursuing accelerated already has a bachelors.
That's great, Natty 21! Did you apply for the accelerated program or the regular one? I applied for accelerated but would be thrilled with getting into either one. All my eggs are in this one basket ... I didn't apply anywhere else. How about you?
Hey Julianna326-- sorry it took me so long to reply! I am applying to the accelerated program as well, but I have heard that many of the accelerated candidates are offered spots in the regular program so I would be satisfied with that too :) I have also applied to UCF and USF so we will see what happens... USF is my 1st choice bc I live in Tampa and USF is my alma mater.
**I am kind of surprised/upset that UNF does not take into account an applicant's work/volunteer experience in the healthcare field... USF strongly recommends that an applicant have medical experience which I think is great! That way applicants already have experience with patient care, medical terminology, hospital atmosphere, etc. Thoughts anyone?

Since i plan on going into the military after nursing school it would be nice if Naval Hospital Jacksonville were an option. Also, it would be nice if Baptist South was a possibility since i live right across the street from there. It would be nice to just be able to walk to my clinical site.
