UNF Summer 2011 Accelerated BSN Hopeful

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello. I am hoping to get into UNF for the summer of 2011. I have taken the TEAS and am taking all of the pre-req courses. I am curious what other people got on their TEAS V and what their Pre-Req GPA is that are also trying to get into the accelerated program this summer. Also, any ideas on what the group interview will be like and what questions will be asked?

There is another thread on the student forum for Accelerated BSN at UNF- if you do a search it should come up.

I am applying for it, too. My TEAS was 81. My pre-req GPA is 3.8

what about you? I'm curious, too!

I am applying as well for the Accelerated BSN Program at UNF!

TEAS: 359; GPA: 3.9

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

I've applied too, looks like I am on par with everyone else's GPA and TEAS here :D

Not that it makes a big difference, but I looked at my "my wings" transcript yesterday and my gpa is actually a 4.0- I guess I calculated wrong? I dunno...I'm just excited! :-)

How did you get a 359 on the TEAS? Did u take a different version or something?

I went to a UNF info session and they explained how it works. msysmartchoices had to calculate this. This along with one's prereq GPA is how UNF calculates points to determine rank, the highest 150 to 160 candidates are called for interviews for the summer class. Not sure how many are offered admission after interviews from this, I think they said 25 to 30, but I remember it was quite a small number. You can calculate your own TEAS number by adding the adjusted individual scores you earned for each section of the test.

Here is the formula: (Your prereq GPA to two decimal places x 100) + (total of the 4 adjusted individual scores on your TEAS V score report) = Total UNF Points, the highest possible being 800. The total score at the top of the TEAS report does not matter for UNF purposes.

So hypothetically, say you have a prereq GPA of 3.70, multiply by 100 and that's 370. Add to that the four total percentages you got on each TEAS section (90.5, 83.5, 92.0, 88.5), that total is 354.5 (I guess you could round this up to 355). So, 370 + 355 = 725. If 725 places you among the top 150 or 160 candidates, you could be invited to interview.

At the one UNF information session I attended recently, I learned that the average GPA was 3.73 and average TEAS was 343 for the Summer 2010 class. For 2011, it was stated that the highest TEAS points anyone got so far was 380  ... but the rep did state that candidates with TEAS scores submitted by that time were averaging 315-320 and that the averages were lower than past years, apparently the TEAS V is harder?

That's exactly right! That was my sum score from the different components of the TEAS (359).

Good Luck everyone! I am sure that you all have done quite well!:)

Oh, I see...I didn't realize she was adding them all up. I also went to a UNF info session, but thanks for the re-cap! :-)

I have applied for the regular pre-licensure program even though I have a degree already. I have kids at home and know someone who just graduated the accelerated program and she said it was GRUELLING!

I have a 3.68 prereq GPA and scored 347 (86%) on the TEAS v. I would love to talk to others who are applying. I guess we will get letters in February for interviews (or not).

FLHusker -I have two small kids at home too. I have applied to the accelerated only, but I read somewhere on here you could get offered a seat in the traditional instead. I am not sure though. I have a 3.6 Pre-Req GPA (thanks to a C in Stats YEARS ago) and a 357 (88%) TEAS V score. After reading some of these posts, I am a little concerned I do not have enough to get an interview! I have applied to JU and will be applying to FSCJ as well. Since they don't accept the TEAS, I am scheduled to take the NAT next Friday. I am not excited about taking another test, but I need to keep my options open as it seems all of the schools are super-competitive. Best of luck to everyone!!

ssroberts -- I hear you about the stats. I, too, took stats many years ago and it is bringing my GPA down as well. It sounds like you do have the numbers to get an interview based on what I've seen. And yes, you are correct that you will be considered for both programs. If you are not interested in one of the programs you need to tell them at the interview.

I'm not applying to FSCJ because I live in St. John's County and they take Duval and Nassau first....and I couldn't even begin to afford JU!!

I'm taking the HESI so I can apply at SJRState if I can't get into UNF....but they only offer an ADN so I would have to do the RN to BSN bridge at UNF after that....yuck!

Your numbers are very similar to mine so I imagine we will either both get an interview or not!!! Let's think good thoughts :-)
