Umson spring 2016 applicants

Published

Hello, all!

My name is Christina Smith! I know I started this thread a little soon, but I am sure others are just as anxious as I am about applying! I have submitted my application for the spring 2016 program :cat: I just want to post some background information about myself, and anyone who has been accepted to previous semesters can share some insight with me if the wish!

I have a 3.9 GPA. My science gpa is as follows:

A: A&P 1

A: A&P 2

B Micro (Which was taken in 5 weeks, do they view the length of the semester?!)

I have gotten As in all of my other courses, and just need algebra and chemistry (which I am taking together this fall.)

I have been a CNA for 2.5 years, and have worked as a med tech for 14 months, and have recently been employed by Carroll Hospital as a MED/SURG PCT.

I have not taken my TEAS, but have purchased a study guide and plan to STUDY STUDY STUDY!!

I was accepted into my community college's ADN program, but I want to step outside my comfort zone and head towards my dream school. I am so nervous!!!!!!!!!

I'm still committee ready. I'm glad you all were accepted!!! Hopefully, I'll see something on Monday. #TheWaitContinues

I can't believe some of you are still waiting! Fingers crossed for you! And thank u blessed and Michelle, I thought something seemed amiss. I've earned an associates in "nursing transfer" and therefore have completed 2 years including micro, nutrition, a&p 1&2, etc. Guess I need to figure out how to convert my degree into an ASN

You'd have to have get accepted into a Nursing program at a community college. Right now to most colleges you're just a student who completed there pre-recs who wants to get into a ASN or BSN program. If you want to an ASN program you'd probably only take one class or two per semester because they normally combine the pre-recs with the nursing classes. For a BSN you're similar to a sophomore student who completed the first two years and wants to specialized their last two years into nursing.

So you can't get a degree in anything for nursing unless you get into a ASN or BSN program.

I know all the ASN programs in my area (Maryland) are two year! Some are accelerated but with clinicals, it is two years part time! At least CCBC, Howard, Frederick, and Carroll are two year programs after pre reqs! Clinicals take time...if you find a one year or less program, let me know because I've never heard of that!

Theres accerlated programs if you already have a BS in something for a year to 15/18 m

Yep, that's what I said previously! But with no Bachelor degree, I have not heard of a program that takes less than a year. You can't just become a RN without the clinical portion that takes at LEAST 1.5 years

I would suggest seeing an advisor because I know all the community college programs in my area hace two year (four semester) programs in order to become a RN. I spoke with an advisor and was told most programs (adn or bsn) take the same amount of time.

Thank you everyone for all your answers. Yes, from what you all are saying it's going to be a slow process even for an ASN program if I can only take a couple courses a semester, since I've completed all prerequisites. Maybe I'll find some kind of solution, like maybe there's a way I can take some of the courses online that aren't being offered during a particular semester. We shall see

You can always apply to other BSN programs for the Fall! I know a lot of people apply to Towson along with UMSOM. Everything happens for a reason! You're still doing great :)

Is anyone working full time while attending school?

I know some of us are working part time but not sure how you would fit in working full time, certainly not regular 9-5 hours, and have time to study, sleep, have a social life. For the Baltimore campus 1st semester, most of us have class or clinical Monday through Friday. They are not all full days but at least half a day.

Harford community college has an accelerated ASN program--2 summer sessions and the fall/spring semesters. Hopkins also has an Accelerated BSN--I think it's a 1 year program but I don't remember if you needed a bachelor's already. With your grades, you may want to consider applying to BSN programs starting in fall with as ASN as backup. It still gets you the BS faster and you're more marketable as an RN with a BSN.
