UMSON fall 2016 hopefuls ?
I go to shady grove and my schedule is certainly different. I know there was a way to make it so you have no tuesday classes, but long days monday and wednesday...But this is my personal schedule: Mon: 8-950 (health assessment) 2-450 (prof. role ---> we had online lecture for four weeks which was nice, but we are now back in session) Tues: 10-1150 (health assessment lab) 1-250 (health promo/patho lab ... Which is now over as we wait to validate) Wed: 10-1150 gerofundies 1-350 (path lecture) Thurs: 10-1250 (research) 2-350 (Gero lab.. which ended week 7) We have clinical three days this semester for gerofundies, and 2 days for health promotion. My clinicals are on saturday, but that was by choice. My friend made her schedule so she starts at 8am mon and wed but has no classes on tuesdays and has clinical for 5 fridays. It is definitely doable in my situation (no work) and I have not had a mental breakdown or really any major stress yet. It is all time management. Now if I was working, this was DEFINITELY be a different story!

UMSON fall 2016 hopefuls ?
Hi guys!! I made the SPRING 2016 BSN thread last year and I have to say how much I LOVE this site!!! It was so nice communicating with others who were waiting ever-so anxiously as I! Well...I was accepted for the BSN program for spring 2016 at Shady Grove. I just wanted to say YOU GUYS CAN DO IT! The wait is frustrating but so worth it :) I also just wanted to offer some insight to those of you wondering how nursing school will be: I was so nervous...I had heard horror stories and I was doubting myself so much...Orientation just confirmed those fears.....However, I have to say, it is NOTHING like I imagined it to be! OF COURSE it is a HUGE commitment. I devote myself 100% but it is NOT impossible! I have done EXCEPTIONALLY well on all the exams, and the material is not difficult, rather just a lot. You just need to balance your time and commit yourself. I know second semester is a different story, but first semester is just a huge adjustment. I feel like it is A LOT of A&P review. So take those classes seriously! I know I am doing so well because I put sooo much energy into my pre-reqs. I think during orientation they were saying that the program only has a 90% graduation rate...5% drop out by self-choice, and the other 5% do not pass.....And I am telling you, that 5% probably didn't study nor have a true passion. If this is your passion, NEVER GIVE UP!! It is worth the wait and it is worth all of the hours spent studying. I love this program and am so grateful for my experience thus far. However, no program can teach you how to care, how to be empathetic, and how to advocate for complete strangers. IF THIS IS YOUR PASSION NEVER GIVE UP! You guys can all do it :) :) :) These are the things I WISH someone shared with me. Never doubt yourself. If you devote yourself 100% YOU WILL SUCCEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish you all luck and hope to see some of you next semester!! Please let me know if you have any questions (or book recommendations )

In a previous forum Grey Lady posted that after the "first round" of acceptances go out, they wait and see who accepts and then more decisions are made from there, depending on who accepts and who declines. Ahhhh, I would die if I were still waiting! Good thing you have an awesome backup!

I guess it all depends on the person, but I know how I am as a student, and I know I could not do full-time..Heck, I couldn't even do part time!

My friend is in second semester and said first semester was MUCH heavier material wise. You are taking more classes so there is much more material. She said first semester is very heavy and that many of her classmates had to cut back drastically. I know the school advises you to work less than twenty hours a week!

Has anyone found out the SSIP date(s) for Shady Grove?? I can't believe I have yet to hear from anyone!!

I read in a previous post from Grey Lady that the average BSN student devotes about 60 hours a WEEK to school! That is insane. I work as a PCT and I am PRN (as needed) which is great...I am only required to work 24 hours in a 6 week span....So I will probably do just that!!

You can always apply to other BSN programs for the Fall! I know a lot of people apply to Towson along with UMSOM. Everything happens for a reason! You're still doing great :)
