Umson spring 2016 applicants

Published

Hello, all!

My name is Christina Smith! I know I started this thread a little soon, but I am sure others are just as anxious as I am about applying! I have submitted my application for the spring 2016 program :cat: I just want to post some background information about myself, and anyone who has been accepted to previous semesters can share some insight with me if the wish!

I have a 3.9 GPA. My science gpa is as follows:

A: A&P 1

A: A&P 2

B Micro (Which was taken in 5 weeks, do they view the length of the semester?!)

I have gotten As in all of my other courses, and just need algebra and chemistry (which I am taking together this fall.)

I have been a CNA for 2.5 years, and have worked as a med tech for 14 months, and have recently been employed by Carroll Hospital as a MED/SURG PCT.

I have not taken my TEAS, but have purchased a study guide and plan to STUDY STUDY STUDY!!

I was accepted into my community college's ADN program, but I want to step outside my comfort zone and head towards my dream school. I am so nervous!!!!!!!!!

My shifts are 12 hours long and from 11-11 and 3-3 as an ER tech. We'll see how it works out but I'm going to try and do full time at least the first semester and summer. Full time at my hospital is 40hrs every 2 weeks. So 2 shifts a week. I had a friend do the same thing so it's doable but certainly tough with school. Thanks for the info

I read in a previous post from Grey Lady that the average BSN student devotes about 60 hours a WEEK to school! That is insane. I work as a PCT and I am PRN (as needed) which is great...I am only required to work 24 hours in a 6 week span....So I will probably do just that!!

Has anyone found out the SSIP date(s) for Shady Grove?? I can't believe I have yet to hear from anyone!!

Hey you guys, for those who are interested in that FB page for baltimore students, can someone give me their FB name so I can start adding people? In order for me to create a group, I at least need to add one member. You can always message me with your name if you're more comfortable with that :)

@casmithx95 my goodness, 60 hours?? Welp I need to get ready for that then haha. I decided to not work at all for the first semester just to get the feel and hang of nursing school. But I hope to get a job probably the second sem or my senior year as a nursing student at a hospital.

anyone bought their scrubs yet? I've already bought my scrubs and white shoes this weekend because of the deals going on for Black Friday (you can already tell I'm excited for nursing school haha)

That's probably doable, at least 1st semester. I don't think 40 hours a week would be doable but 20 should be OK. I know others in 3rd semester that are doing that schedule and they are fine too but they did advise NOT to work in 2nd semester because you will have 2 12hr and 1 8 hr clinical days plus 1.5 days of classes. I will find out about that in spring!

My friend is in second semester and said first semester was MUCH heavier material wise. You are taking more classes so there is much more material. She said first semester is very heavy and that many of her classmates had to cut back drastically. I know the school advises you to work less than twenty hours a week!

I guess it all depends on the person, but I know how I am as a student, and I know I could not do full-time..Heck, I couldn't even do part time!

Shady grove doesn't have SSIP it's all embedded in the orientation that was what I was told

Where did u get the scrubs from

@Bashluv, the UMB store sells scrubs but I bought them from the Scrubs Pro store since it's not required to buy your scrubs from UMB. you can buy your scrubs anywhere you want to as long as it's white tops and khaki bottoms. I wanted to buy them ASAP since I'm pretty small and short so going into a store physically is ideal for me since I needed to find petite sizes. You can get your scrubs online such as allheart.com or uniformadvantage.com. the only thing required to buy from UMB for uniforms is the UMSON patch

Koi and Grey's Anatomy are my favorite brands! Grey's Anatomy tops are sooo soft :)
