Umson spring 2016 applicants

Published

Hello, all!

My name is Christina Smith! I know I started this thread a little soon, but I am sure others are just as anxious as I am about applying! I have submitted my application for the spring 2016 program :cat: I just want to post some background information about myself, and anyone who has been accepted to previous semesters can share some insight with me if the wish!

I have a 3.9 GPA. My science gpa is as follows:

A: A&P 1

A: A&P 2

B Micro (Which was taken in 5 weeks, do they view the length of the semester?!)

I have gotten As in all of my other courses, and just need algebra and chemistry (which I am taking together this fall.)

I have been a CNA for 2.5 years, and have worked as a med tech for 14 months, and have recently been employed by Carroll Hospital as a MED/SURG PCT.

I have not taken my TEAS, but have purchased a study guide and plan to STUDY STUDY STUDY!!

I was accepted into my community college's ADN program, but I want to step outside my comfort zone and head towards my dream school. I am so nervous!!!!!!!!!

Astran - my stats from aacc are great, but I attended howard community college back in 2008 and failed some classes and got a couple D's in the classes I passed. I honestly just want ready for college and didn't care back then. But the couple of classes I got D's in I have retaken and gotten As in. So aside from HCC, my current stats at my current school is a GPA of 3.909. No idea what my science GPA is, but I've gotten an a in every class I've taken, science or not, except for organic chem, which I recieved a B in. My advisor told me that with my almost perfect straight As record, that i would have a strong chance at UMSON. she said that the school would see that the few classes I did poorly in were seven years ago, followed by a large time gap, followed by straight As for the past 2 years (other than my b in chem). My teas were only an 83.7, not great but not horrible. I am a great essay writer, my English teachers always try to convince me to pursue a career in writing lol so no issues with essays. I had my bio 101 teacher write a recommendation, I got a great recommendation from my A&p 1&2 professor, and my algebra teacher sent me a copy if his recommendation letter and I was blown away by it to say the least. So my stats are teas 83.7, gpa, 3.909 but have a few poor grades from long ago that have been retaken and replaced with A's, all a's in sciences other than a B in chem, three teacher recommendations with at least 2 of them being really really really good, and good essays. And I'll be receiving my associates in nursing transfer this fall, and I had a years internship in mercy hospital's neonatal unit in high school

Thanks for the info @cmblanc. Were you accepted into the ADN or the 3 + 1 . Being that I majored in Biology for 3 years and completed all of my prereqs im wondering if I would be able to complete the ADN program in less than 2 years. I went to their website but I think I would have to find another forum that explains everything since it's a little confusing for me. I live right down the street from one of the campuses so it would be ideal if the UMSON program doesnt pan out.

I have several acquaintances that all have a BSN from UMSON. I asked them all how they got in because considering how difficult it is to get in i was surprised so many of them got a bsn there. Every single one of them first became an RN. They told me it's much easier to get into UMSON if you are already an RN, apparently much easier than the traditional BSN program which is apparently much much harder to get a spot in. So since I have my associates. I'm thinking of trying to become an RN while sitting around on the waitlist

isn't that a separate program? the rn-bsn?

Yes I think so. So even though both programs lead to a BSN, the RN-BSN program is apparently much easier to get into

@dbank009 the ADN program. Having the prereqs done doesn't take less time, you just have to take less classes. First semester is 9 credits. Every semester is less than 10 credits

Good luck all you still waiting for status changes!

Congratulations to everyone that heard back to those still waiting good luck and to those wait listed too, hopefully you hear good news before the holidays.

i just got my admission letter which I came in yesterday.

I also received my admission letter in the mail yesterday.

For those who are waitlisted, there is still some hope! Don't get too discouraged yet, you might never know! I have also gotten my admission letter yesterday so I will be turning that 400 dollar deposit very soon

My letter came too! But no phone call ..? Anyone else? It seems as though the call almost always comes first

I didn't get a phone call either. I don't think we will get one, honestly.
