Hello, all!
My name is Christina Smith! I know I started this thread a little soon, but I am sure others are just as anxious as I am about applying! I have submitted my application for the spring 2016 program I just want to post some background information about myself, and anyone who has been accepted to previous semesters can share some insight with me if the wish!
I have a 3.9 GPA. My science gpa is as follows:
A: A&P 1
A: A&P 2
B Micro (Which was taken in 5 weeks, do they view the length of the semester?!)
I have gotten As in all of my other courses, and just need algebra and chemistry (which I am taking together this fall.)
I have been a CNA for 2.5 years, and have worked as a med tech for 14 months, and have recently been employed by Carroll Hospital as a MED/SURG PCT.
I have not taken my TEAS, but have purchased a study guide and plan to STUDY STUDY STUDY!!
I was accepted into my community college's ADN program, but I want to step outside my comfort zone and head towards my dream school. I am so nervous!!!!!!!!!
I really had no idea UMSON was hard to get into lol I didn't research that aspect of it. When I think of schools that are hard to get into, I automatically think hopkins, Yale harvard... considering my high grades I figured anything other than those obviously hard schools was within my reach. Not to mention that i know of a couple people who got in previously that were, not to sound concieted or cocky, not exactly what you would consider competitively intelligent. While I am still super disappointed, I guess I will try to feel a tiny bit proud that i was waitlisted for a school considered difficult to get into
....that's why part of me feels like what they do in admissions is so mysterious. I got a 92 on my teas, 3.5 GPA, I have a job as a CNA, I volunteered, have good recommendation letters, and good essay, and (not to sound like a broken record) was wait listed twice after my application was cancelled once (3 semesters trying to get in. Almost two years of persistence), and then my app gets rejected this time around. I think they also may have other quotas to fill, maybe like a certain number of each ethnicity? They also have like the 2+2 program where if you go to UMD and you have above a 3.0 you're automatically enrolled if you apply....idk. Luckily i applied elsewhere so I'm starting on January still, but it's still a slap in the face to be rejected...again.
I should start identifying myself as a minority lol everyone already thinks I'm mixed anyways. I look so mixed, that my white parents even purchased an expensive DNA genealogy test for my 18th birthday because we got so tired of people trying to guess my ethnicity lmao turns out I'm over 95% European/white, but have a tiny tiny tiny amount of Egyptian and middle eastern blood :-D
@winnieguinnie Montgomery college has a nursing program! 2 years, it's an ADN program but now they have a dual enrollment program where you are enrolled at MC and UMSON. After your first semester you can start taking online BSN classes from Maryland. Much cheaper overall I think, and a good option for those who want to work (between classes and clinicals we're only in school 3 days of the week the first semester, and potentially less as the semesters go on)
Sorry to hear that some of you didn't get in and for those still waiting my fingers are crossed. For those wait listed I know the feeling. I just let my application roll over and tried again.
I hope UMSON looks at the applicants qualifications to determine who gets in and not based on ethnicity. I would hate to think that me being a minority was the reason I got in. I worked hard and want what I've done to be the reason why I got in.

Hi ladies,
I just got in. For those who don't get the offer this semester, please don't give up. I was on a wait list for the fall 2015 semester and I know how it felt. I had several prerequisite courses to complete, my TEAS score was not great and I had no medical experiences. This year, I took 6 classes in one semester (4 of them are chm, a&p, microbio & statistics), retook the TEAS exam, got my CNA certification, and occasional volunteer work while working full time. Please dont give up and give up to all who are still waiting for the decisions.
