Hello, all!
My name is Christina Smith! I know I started this thread a little soon, but I am sure others are just as anxious as I am about applying! I have submitted my application for the spring 2016 program I just want to post some background information about myself, and anyone who has been accepted to previous semesters can share some insight with me if the wish!
I have a 3.9 GPA. My science gpa is as follows:
A: A&P 1
A: A&P 2
B Micro (Which was taken in 5 weeks, do they view the length of the semester?!)
I have gotten As in all of my other courses, and just need algebra and chemistry (which I am taking together this fall.)
I have been a CNA for 2.5 years, and have worked as a med tech for 14 months, and have recently been employed by Carroll Hospital as a MED/SURG PCT.
I have not taken my TEAS, but have purchased a study guide and plan to STUDY STUDY STUDY!!
I was accepted into my community college's ADN program, but I want to step outside my comfort zone and head towards my dream school. I am so nervous!!!!!!!!!
I'm in no way discounting anyone's acceptance...if you got accepted then you deserve to be there because the process is so competitive. I know other colleges do it kind of like that and many establishments hire based on the demographics they serve so. It's probably my brain trying to reason why I've been waitlisted/rejected so much. Don't pay me any mind lol
@cmblanc did you take your prereqs at MC? Did they accept all of your prereqs and previous classes? I need to come up with a back up plan and I'm currently at MC taking Nutrition and have a ton of classes from another university. Just wondering if they make you retake any classes if you didn't take them at MC
Yeah I took a couple of prereqs at MC...most of them I had completed when I got my biology degree from st. Mary's college of Maryland. I took nutrition, human growth and development, and a&p 1 and 2 at MC (my undergrad offered A&P 1 and 2 smushed together as one class for 4 credits so I had to retake both of them). I'm pretty sure they took all of them. Would they notify me if they wouldn't accept them? I hope so lol
Rosie43 I didn't mean in any way to discredit your hard work or admittance, if you got admitted you earned it!!! I do know that there are many many places that do try to put more of a priority on hiring minorities to create more diversity. For example, one of my white male friends who has been a volunteer firefighter for probably over 10 years and is in perfect shape and topnotch, he can't get a full-time firefighting job because they will purposely chose a minority over him every time. Luckily he is persistent and still refuses to give up hope after years :-) I have no idea if UMSON considers ethnicity, but even if they do, if doesn't mean in any way you didn't earn your spot if you were accepted! I was just joking about the idea of identifying myself as mixed race lol I'm sorry if I sounded disrespectful, I should have realized how insulting it may sound to some
Congrats to everyone that got accepted!! Im honestly shocked to hear that some of you were rejected especially with those stats. My status is still committee ready so I'm really glad I accepted a spot at another school. But man to wait for one schools decision especially right before the holidays is killer! I'm getting ready for my classes to start and just getting all the uniforms and books and registering is stressful enough. I hope those that haven't gotten a decision get one soon and those waitlisted get great news very soon. Hang in there guys. @cmblanc have you applied anywhere else? Have you been accepted there? I'm still in shock.
@blessedNhopeful yes I'm going to MC in January, they have a dual enrollment program so after your first semester you can apply and you can start taking online BSN classes from Maryland. After you take the NCLEX you have only one more class to take before getting your BSN so looks like the joke is on Maryland hehe [emoji6]

@kmichellex. I'm with you, I think they choose a very diverse class. When I attended an open house and two of the current students spoke, that's what I gathered. The students spoke of having classmates who worked full-time and had 3 and 4 kids. Their class also had a number of returning students who were changing careers. But I must say I think it's horrible to wait-list someone for a whole year then reject them. In my eyes if I were wait- listed, I would think I qualified, but they just didn't have enough space. Why give someone false hope and possibly halter their progress when they could have sought other options.
