UMSON Fall 2015

Published

REMINDER!!! The deadline to submit your Fall application is nearing. As of now, the deadline has not changed from February 2 (short of 4 weeks away).

This is my second time applying--I was wait listed for the Spring term. Currently, I am studying to take my TEAS exam again on January 27th. This exam was the only portion of my application I was not confident in. I scored a 70% without refreshing my memory on key concepts by studying before hand. I did find the test to be a "you either no it or you don't" kind of thing so from personal experience--STUDY!

I have no outstanding prerequisites and my sciences are as follows:

AP1. -- B

AP2. -- A

CHEM -- B

MICRO -- A

I had the privilege of chatting with the last group of students and found this forum to be quite helpful! Please use this post as a way of communicating, sharing experiences, and giving advice. Hopefully, we will be classmates in the Fall!:)

My registration opened up May 4th. still waiting on my approval though so I can actually register

What is SSIP session?

SSIP is the student success immersion program. I think it may just be the Baltimore campus---not sure if Shady Grove does it. I know my letter indicated that students register for classes at these sessions throughout the summer. Registration opened May 4 but I don't think new students at Baltimore are allowed to register until their SSIP unless they cannot attend any of the offered sessions. From the UMSON website: " The academic success program for Baltimore students, Student Success Immersion Program (SSIP), is offered by UMSON's Student Success Center. This program provides students with the tools and refresher skills to be successful in their first semester and beyond. Students will have an opportunity to interact with other students in their cohort in a small group setting, review concepts of anatomy and physiology, and discuss skills related to medical dosage calculations. Students receive an introduction to their first semester laboratory courses and an overview of expectations."

I'm so bummed out because I'm still committee ready. Thinking about registration is way beyond anything.

Do we have to register for SSIP sessions or is that optional? It doesn't really say on the website

Yes you do have to register for an SSIP session. UMSON's orientation process is a 2 day process.

I was able to register for an SSIP session with no issue (using my student id number), right after I received my acceptance. Same with the Sept 2 orientation. I received confirmation emails for both. So if you didn't I'd do that now if possible because it looks like a lot of the SSIP sessions have filled up already.

I'm so sorry for those of you at committee ready still :( I really hope they give you all decisions Asap!

I'm so sorry for everyone still waiting!! I hope you hear very soon! It must be agonizing and I can't imagine :(

SSIP workshops, etc. are offered on several dates to keep the group size small for Baltimore BSN students. Shady Grove students get the same thing only as part of their two day orientation as our group size is smaller. Registration for classes and labs is open for Shady Grove students as soon as their status changes and they submit a proper Registration Approval form. Baltimore students will register as a group at their SSIP sessions.

Thanks for checking, Lol, I actually gave up. I am still committee ready. I am graduating on May 15th from the BSN program. I am too excited to care about any decision at this point. How about you? Did you get in?

Grey Lady,

After we send in our deposit and confirmation forms, will we get another letter or email from Baltimore letting us know they received the payment? I haven't received anything and just wanted to double check that I'm officially admitted.

This is to Grey Lady and anyone else who is willing to help.

I am in the worst dilemma of my life. So far, I have been wait listed for UMSON (baltimore) and I am currently taking the last three courses needed to complete my pre-reqs into nursing school. These courses are Anatomy and Physiology 2, Microbiology and Chemistry. Looking at my grades so far, I believe I will end up with C's in two of the classes and a B in the third class. With that said, I believe it was stated that if you are an admit you can get no lower than a B in the courses, especially science courses.

1. So lets say I get admitted (prays and hopes) will it be safe for me to retake those courses over the summer before the deadline to turn in my transcript for fall admission passes ?

2. The grades in those classes will affect my overall GPA (bringing it down from above a 3.0 to a ~2.6). Can my admission be revoked with the change in GPA than what it was when I applied? Or is UMSON (baltimore) solely looking that the pre-reqs is a B or higher ?

3. Will it reflect poorly on me if I retake those courses at a community college instead of the university (that I got a C in) due to the cheaper cost of summer classes at the college than at the university?

Thank you!
