REMINDER!!! The deadline to submit your Fall application is nearing. As of now, the deadline has not changed from February 2 (short of 4 weeks away).
This is my second time applying--I was wait listed for the Spring term. Currently, I am studying to take my TEAS exam again on January 27th. This exam was the only portion of my application I was not confident in. I scored a 70% without refreshing my memory on key concepts by studying before hand. I did find the test to be a "you either no it or you don't" kind of thing so from personal experience--STUDY!
I have no outstanding prerequisites and my sciences are as follows:
AP1. -- B
AP2. -- A
CHEM -- B
MICRO -- A
I had the privilege of chatting with the last group of students and found this forum to be quite helpful! Please use this post as a way of communicating, sharing experiences, and giving advice. Hopefully, we will be classmates in the Fall!:)
I definitely don't think it will reflect poorly on you if you've taken those courses at a community college! I know lots of people do it! I believe you are allowed to re-take 2 pre-reqs and that's it. I took Microbiology over the summer 2 years and I ended up with a B but barely. It is do-able and I've seen people in my micro class take Chem and anatomy as well over the summer. However, I am not sure it's wise to take both over the summer. I personally wouldn't do that, but if you feel committed enough, I know you could! I feel like that's a whole lot of pressure to put on yourself if you're admitted.
I truely hope this helps and that you'll make the right decision for you! Good luck to you!
Nothing wrong with taking the courses at a CC--I did :) My undergrad was JHU and I took mine at BCCC and got into the three schools to which I applied. I don't think that part matters but the Cs probably do cuz they ask waitlisted students to send updated transcripts...
I took anatomy and nutrition over the summer and that almost killed me. However, I also work full time and had a weekend church class I was taking as well. If you're working full time anatomy and chem in the summer will be had. But if you're not working, it's doable and perhaps will be easier this time around as a retake.
Thanks mimi3 and everyone else. I feel so stressed out because I don't have a decision. Still committee ready. Do you guys know if we'll eventually get a decision or what? I'm so confused. I don't even know what to think. I emailed the lady last week and she said they were still reviewing some applications. If I knew the deadline as to when I would hear back that would help so much. Right now we're just in a limb, don't even know when I'll hear back. Hate the situation. I'm in.
Thank you Mimi, Katiep_123 and aspiringnursedd
The course load during the summer at my university is not the issue- if I focus and work hard I can make good grades in it. My main issue is that my GPA now lies beneath a 3.0 and the requirement for UMSON is a 3.0 so I am worried if i do get admit-provisional they might revoke my admission after seeing my new GPA no matter if I meet the science course requirement (with a B or higher).
Also I am leaning towards retaking the courses at my University because that is the only way I can raise my GPA. When you take a course outside our University it does not affect your GPA, it just counts as the credits. Thats why I want to retake it here at my university so that I can at least raise my GPA closer to a 3.0 but those two courses will not be enough to get it at exactly a 3.0 before fall.
I am open to any suggestions.
Thank you!
If you're worried about GPA, then taking courses at your school might be the best option for you. I think that's the only thing you can do. If you do get accepted, I would call them up and explain your situation so they doing revoke your admission, it's possible that will help! I mean, try and get as close to a 3.0 or above as possible, that's the only thing you can do!
I see .. You're right, that's definitely a bind to be placed in. My mom always told me, "what's meant to be, will be." Don't stress it too much as you do not know your fate yet. Instead realize that if you do not get in this time around at least you will be able to apply over the Spring as well as take those courses during the Fall to raise your GPA. What's the worst that can happen? You get told no? If so, perhaps there is something better in store for you. I was waitlisted twice and sure it got me down. It feels like a second place win but hey, I'm still here and exploring other options. Calm your nerves at least until you know your decision. And if you just can't seem to do so, I would definitely give them a call. The staff there are friendly and always have answered any question I had or pointed me in the right direction! I'm sure you'll be fine! Have a little faith! :)
@nover and all others who are still waiting on a decision. It sucks but patience really is key. I just went to the campus yesterday and I gota tell you they are STILL looking over applications and giving out decisions. On top of that they're busy with the graduating nurses. There was alot going on there yesterday. Meetings, ceremonies, everything. I know it's hard waiting, I'll be in the same boat in a few months, but just know these guys are still working. It might help to just go do something fun and keep yourself busy. Constantly checking AN and asking questions or refreshing your SURFS account is only going to drive you more crazy. It's like watching water boil. Take your mind off of it and it's during that time when you're not even thinking of the stress and pressures, that something is going to happen. The weather is beautiful. Go have some fun. (While you still can )
Grey Lady,After we send in our deposit and confirmation forms, will we get another letter or email from Baltimore letting us know they received the payment? I haven't received anything and just wanted to double check that I'm officially admitted.
No, you will not get an email but you will see that your application status changes. If you are Admit Institution it will change to Accept Applicant. If you are Provisional Admit, it will change to Provisional Admit-Confirms. This means that you have accepted our offer of admission and are now listed as an official student in the system.
This is to Grey Lady and anyone else who is willing to help.I am in the worst dilemma of my life. So far, I have been wait listed for UMSON (baltimore) and I am currently taking the last three courses needed to complete my pre-reqs into nursing school. These courses are Anatomy and Physiology 2, Microbiology and Chemistry. Looking at my grades so far, I believe I will end up with C's in two of the classes and a B in the third class. With that said, I believe it was stated that if you are an admit you can get no lower than a B in the courses, especially science courses.
1. So lets say I get admitted (prays and hopes) will it be safe for me to retake those courses over the summer before the deadline to turn in my transcript for fall admission passes ?
2. The grades in those classes will affect my overall GPA (bringing it down from above a 3.0 to a ~2.6). Can my admission be revoked with the change in GPA than what it was when I applied? Or is UMSON (baltimore) solely looking that the pre-reqs is a B or higher ?
3. Will it reflect poorly on me if I retake those courses at a community college instead of the university (that I got a C in) due to the cheaper cost of summer classes at the college than at the university?
Thank you!
Wow. You are in a pickle. Only admissions can really answer these questions. I would call them. Best of luck.

Finding,
I do not have a definite answer to your question but I would really try hard to get those B's because if accepted, provisional, I think you will still be under a "deadline" to submit transcripts considering the entire package is looked at to include the prereqs list which would have indicated when you are to complete courses.
Also, I'm not sure which courses you think you will possibly get a C in but I don't think AP2 is wise to take as just an eight week course. It's a lot of material even for 16 weeks. That's if that's one of the courses ...
