REMINDER!!! The deadline to submit your Fall application is nearing. As of now, the deadline has not changed from February 2 (short of 4 weeks away).
This is my second time applying--I was wait listed for the Spring term. Currently, I am studying to take my TEAS exam again on January 27th. This exam was the only portion of my application I was not confident in. I scored a 70% without refreshing my memory on key concepts by studying before hand. I did find the test to be a "you either no it or you don't" kind of thing so from personal experience--STUDY!
I have no outstanding prerequisites and my sciences are as follows:
AP1. -- B
AP2. -- A
CHEM -- B
MICRO -- A
I had the privilege of chatting with the last group of students and found this forum to be quite helpful! Please use this post as a way of communicating, sharing experiences, and giving advice. Hopefully, we will be classmates in the Fall!:)
Waitlisted for BSN fall 2015 at Baltimore's campus. I'm kind of excited! I was rejected from Towson, so this gives me so much hope. CONGRATS TO EVERYONE!
Now I have to call my mom to pray for me; I however will continue with my visualizations of wearing the scrubs, dressing in my khaki pants and white lab coat, practicing in the skills lab, walking over to the health science library for a group study session... Positive vibes for everyone!
GreyLady,I was waitlisted for this semester... Do you recommend retaking some classes to get a higher grade in them? Specifically the core sciences? Also, would you recommend re-taking the TEAS? I would like to reapply for the Spring but I'm worried about doing a lot of work just to get waitlisted again

Thanks!
That's a difficult question to answer. Even if you re-take classes the committee will see that they have been repeated. If you can retake a class with a C and get an A and there is a compelling reason why you got that C which you put in an essay, that might work. If your TEAS score was around the national average, it won't make that much difference if you raise it by a few points. What it really all boils down to is what your competition looks like in the applicant pool for the semester you are applying for. Also, take heart, we have taken people off the wait list every semester for the last 8 years at least. It's early and there are plenty of applicants who have applied to multiple schools and others who find they are not ready to enter nursing school at this time.
It can take a while to get "The Call." Last fall, others began receiving notifications, be it accepted, rejected, or waitlisted. A week into it, I still had heard noting. I think it took at least a week and a half or maybe even longer than two weeks for my notification.I was driving in the car with my kids, and it was early evening, long past when I thought anyone would be in the office. The phone rang, and it was a Baltimore number. I figured it was a solicitation or something along those lines. I actually said to my daughters, "It's a Baltimore number, but there's no way it's Maryland calling." (I had JUST checked my status online.) But then I decided to check my status and the voicemail. Boy, was I wrong! I was a full "admit institution" because I had already successfully completed my prerequisite classes.
A longer wait prior to receiving a response is not a negative indicator. You could still get the news you want two weeks from now!
Any Shady Grove traditional BSN admits- please feel free to contact me or littlemango. We had (and have) some great mentors and we would love to do the same for you. Littlemango and I make a great team, and we love to help!
afowler77 I've been following posts from yourself and littlemango for a while now (I swear I'm not a stalker:)) I've been wondering how you guys first semester has been. Maybe you should start a thread. I'd love to hear! I'm waiting to begin my application for Spring 2016 and am already nervous. You two are so welcoming!
You had said that you were accepted to Towson too, didn't you? Are you going to be giving up your spot? I am a Towson wait listed student and Brook Necker told me I am in the top 10% of the 25 person wait list so I'm anxiously waiting for people to hear back from UMSON for spots to open! Congratulations on both!!

I was accepted to Towson's program at the main campus, and was also accepted to UMSON at the Baltimore campus, I am going to be giving up my spot for Towson! I hope that this mean you get it! :)
