UMSON Fall 2015

Published

REMINDER!!! The deadline to submit your Fall application is nearing. As of now, the deadline has not changed from February 2 (short of 4 weeks away).

This is my second time applying--I was wait listed for the Spring term. Currently, I am studying to take my TEAS exam again on January 27th. This exam was the only portion of my application I was not confident in. I scored a 70% without refreshing my memory on key concepts by studying before hand. I did find the test to be a "you either no it or you don't" kind of thing so from personal experience--STUDY!

I have no outstanding prerequisites and my sciences are as follows:

AP1. -- B

AP2. -- A

CHEM -- B

MICRO -- A

I had the privilege of chatting with the last group of students and found this forum to be quite helpful! Please use this post as a way of communicating, sharing experiences, and giving advice. Hopefully, we will be classmates in the Fall!:)

My interview was in person. I love in Maryland so it made sense to just go to Baltimore.

I just had my interview as well. What were the topics for the writing assignment? It sounds like no big deal, I just wanted a heads up on it.

Good luck!

since the writing assignment is conducted online you will be able to see the topics of each writing assignment before selecting which one you want to write on.

Hopefully they said late April just so people will stop asking lol, or maybe as an overestimate just in case? I just want to know already!

I heard from Towson last week and the deposit is due April 13th :( no time! I think I'll have to let that school go. They have a 200$ deposit for nursing and a 300$ deposit for the school itself I believe so I can't throw 500 away like that.

I'm in the same boat now. The Towson application had to be postmarked by a certain day, but this letter says the deposit must be received by the 13th - so I guess we had better find out no later than the 10th! I'm not inclined to donate $500 to them either.

Yea :( I just got my fin aid letter and I'd have to take out some private loans if I went to Towson so that school is definitely off my list. Did you apply anywhere else?

Here's to hoping we all hear back from UMSON in a few weeks... :)

This is the month we all have been waiting for. Hopefully it has loaded barrels of laugh, happiness, good news and all the good stuff for all of us. Let the countdown begin

AMEN TO THAT!

But I do wish at least my status has changed...there a sense of paranoia creeping up on me that they didn't receive anything even though my application is "complete and ready for review"!

Cool those jets. If nothing was received what would there be to review? :)

@bifym what program did you apply to? And how was your interview?

Did they say when she should head a decision?

CNL Applicants PLEASE READ:

I was able to speak to the CNL coordinator and had a lengthy but clarifying conversation. Let me start off by saying that she is currently battling asthma and seasonal allergies and as a result is not answering the phone much in order to focus all of her attention to processing more applications.

Yes we do have to wait but based on our conversation we should be hearing something by the middle of April. She stated that they hope to send out decisions by the 1st week of May so in order to do so, interviews must be done by the 3rd week in April. She was also kind enough to clarify the process for me. Apparently the applications (which is usually around 200 for CNL and 400-500 for BSN) is bundled into chunks and goes through a computer system. The computer then compiles a list that is in alphabetical order. Once that list is complied, they process the application, send it to the committee for review and then request interviews. So yes the process is partly alphabetical but there is no particular order to determine which applicants goes into which particular batch. So in our cases, it is the luck of the draw that our applications weren't within the first batches, but since it is a rolling admissions process that does not mean that we are out of the running. As long as you submitted your application before Feb 2 and you meet the minimum requirements, it will be looked at by the committee which should lead to an interview.

Keep in mind too that UMSON has a very slow process compared to other schools. Other schools use an automated system but UMSON does everything manually and unfortunately there aren't very many people to process the over 1,000 applications they receive per cycle for all of the different programs. To add to that, they were on Spring Break last week, so nothing was done. Because I applied last year I knew that the wait would be long, however, this year instead of reviewing all of the applications at one time and then determining who gets an interview, they are chunking the applications, which makes the wait harder (but not necessarily longer).

I will say that for me personally, once I found out that someone I actually knew outside this forum (my classmate) received an interview and I hadn't heard anything, I was worried that my application somehow did not meet the qualifications and I would not hear anything because I was going to be rejected. She was very kind to assure me that my transcripts were fine and that I meet all of the requirements (based on a preliminary review). By doing this she assured me that it was not by my own merits (or what I thought was a lack thereof) that I didn't hear anything, they are still trying to process applications as quickly as possible because May is just around the corner and decisions must be sent out. But the take home message is that we are almost at the home stretch, we just need to sit tight a little bit longer!

I hope this helps!
