Umm, 16 hour shifts anyone??

I'm not new to psych... but I would be new to in-patient psych. And I'm starting to think that Billikin may be right. It's just that right now I'm auditing charts and I'm dying to get back into patient care (never thought I'd say that...)

i applied today for a 16 hr sat and sun job. i will get the baylor plan and get paid for 40 hrs. i don't see how anyone can work 5 days in a row..i would loose my cottin pickin mind.....

Last weekend I worked two 12 hour days, followed by two 16 hour shifts, then a 12 hour night, all in a row. I had coffee in my veins, and although it's not healthy, the overtime was to die for.

Two 16 hour shifts are definitely worth it.

Is it difficult to stay current with what is going on with your patients with so much break time in between shifts? I worked once a week at a residential tx for a while, and I often felt out of the loop.

I work LTC, and most of my pt's are remarkably stable, so it's really not that much of an issue for me. Also, I did agency for quite a while, so I'm used to updating myself by perusing the charts and I expect a REALLY good report when I'm back after 6 days off.

I just started doing this. I work two 3p-7a shifts a week, and one 11p-7a shift. Though I would still be full time with bennies if I only worked the two double shifts, I can't afford to drop that fifth shift. Not yet, anyway. Maybe in the not so distant future. =)

It's not too bad, though working the 3-11 shift has taken quite a bit of getting used to, as I'm used to just working 11-7. Lots more activity on 3-11!

What I would really like though, is for my hospital to start offering twelve hour shifts again. Not going to happen though, from what I keep hearing. =(

I have been working 16 hour shifts every weekend (6am to 10pm) throughout the past year and a half, but not at a psychiatric hospital setting. I did, however, have a PRN job at a psych hospital last year.

Do you know of any psych. hospitals in the general fort worth area (besides JPS)? I found one in arlington. If there are any other around I might be missing? I see you worked in one prn. I am very curious about psych. I didnt know if they would use LVN's or not. Any info would be helpful....THANKS!!

If you're willing to commute, there's University Behavioral Health of Denton. They're a small, JHACO-accredited psych hospital located on University Drive in Denton. I was willing to commute for the experience.
