  1. I will check. Good idea.
  2. I have been out of RN school for a year and have been working private duty homecare. I enjoy the job alot but there are no benefits and few skills involved. Ive been offered a position in a hospital either PCU progressive care (adults) or Ortho and I am debating on the position. I worked 2 years as a Med/Surg LVN and hated it. I wonder if I will get another opportunity even close to this again though because hospital jobs are hard to find in my area with no RN experience. As with many others I had wanted to work in ER, NICU but as we know its virtually impossible. The salary is about the same for both the job Im working at and the one Im considering. Any advice please give me your opinion and/or personal experiences.
  3. I have read many threads related to All About Staffing. Has anyone taken a contract with them recently in the DFW area and any idea what the salary is? I hear they are the highest paying but I have not seen actually how much they pay. I don't want to follow through with the application process until I get a general idea of the pay range and if it's close to my current salary given that I will be commuting a great distance to work at any of the HCA hospitals. Thanks..any info would be appreciated.
  4. I recently took a position as an RN/ Patient Care Coordinator. I went into the job with 9 years previous hospice experience and my salary is 60K/year. Again this is a salary position and most weeks you work over 40 hours in very stressful situations. I am also anxious if this is comparable to other agencies. Good luck in your journey!
  5. I am having a very hard time making a decision here. I started an LVN-RN transition program this summer. I went summer one and we have 2 semesters to go until graduation. I had such a miserable time with the college I just dont know if I want to go back. I am thinking about Excelsior instead. I just cant see living 9 months of misery with this school. Has anyone out there been in this situation? I understand Excelsior will take longer having to wait on my CPNE and all but at this point I dont think I care. Please any advice would be helpful.
  6. I am not sure where the idea that male nurses are looked down came about; but I can tell you from my personal experience they are wonderful. When my dad was in the hospital (ICU) he was so glad to finally have a male nurse that he could talk to about guy things or else he would have probably went crazy. Also, I personally enjoy working with males exspecially as charge nurses because most the time they handle stress very well and can help in physical situations because they are naturalluy stronger. I say if you are a male and you are thinking about nursing school, go for it!
  7. It is so strange of how you just lose all concentration when you are participating in your pass/fail skills check offs and how you start to second guess yourself. I really appreciate your help to anyone who can free my mind until get the results. I dont know how the students from Excelsior do there 3 day clinical. I think I would just go crazy. Thanks again.
  8. I need some assistance please. Say you are given a packet of medicine that states its has (250mg/5ml) and the packet states to add 10 ml of diluent. The doctors order is 500mg. Don't you mix the one packet with 10ml and administer that to make 500 mg or do you need 2 packets? This is a reconstition question I had on a skills test today and I feel like I am just freaking myself out over this.
  9. Way to go....congratulations!!!
  10. In response to tmmcbrady's reply: I work in a Psych and Chemical Dependency hospital and am curious about where you took your classes to get your license for the drug and alcohol counseling and if you know of any online. Do you work for a hospital or outpatient. Any info would be helpful...thanks
  11. Did anyone have a difficult time trying to decide between excelsior or a traditional college for their LVN to RN? I have been trying to decide what to do for some time now. If anyone else has been in my situation and decided one way or the other please let me in on any advice and how things are going with your decision.
  12. You might want to consider going through RN school first. I live in the state of texas and work as an LVN and the hospital jobs for LVN are few and far between. The specialities you have listed are almost unheard of for and LVN to work. I too, wanted to work ER, NICU, etc. but you will more than likely have to get your RN to do that. Some ER's may let you in. It all depends on the situation and the size of the hospital. There are other options for LVN's like homecare, hospice, clinics, dialysis, etc...but if I had to do it over again, I would have just got the RN as hard as it may be. Dont lose hope, if all you can do is get your LVN for now, you will be learning in the process. Dont frett, you will be an RN soon enough. You can make it happen!!!
  13. Do you know of any psych. hospitals in the general fort worth area (besides JPS)? I found one in arlington. If there are any other around I might be missing? I see you worked in one prn. I am very curious about psych. I didnt know if they would use LVN's or not. Any info would be helpful....THANKS!!
  14. Can anyone give me a job description for MDS/TILE nurse?I have seen alot of positions for this and have been considering looking into it. Thanks!!
  15. Do any of you who are currently LVN's plan to go back to school to specialize in a specific area of nursing? Any ideas or advice would really be appreciated.
