Ultrascope or Littman?

Published

I just got accepted into the PN program in January. I'm deciding between an Ultrascope and a Littman Cardiology III. I love the Ultrascopes....so cute and different. But is it a good ssope? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

This seems to be the cheapest price on the Ultrascope.

I just got my Ultrascope last week, and I LOVE it. I have a Littman, but I like the Ultrascope better. I feel like I can hear more, and I don't seem to have a problem with background noise as much.

You can find them cheaper at http://www.rnsupply.com AND...she ships really fast.

Which one did you get? Just curious.

Love my ultra scope, but had to wait until AFTER school to use it, they wanted us to use one with two sides so they could watch us auscultate for bruits with the little bell. harrrumph!

Just had to add my 2 cents...I just got my Ultrascope and I LOVE IT!!!! I had been using a Litmann classic II SE and various cheapies (BTW...I absolutely hate the Sprague scopes!!!) I had used an ultrascope several years ago and was impressed with the sound quality, but couldn't afford one. My Precious Husband got me the one with a horses head for our anniversary! Ultrascopes are GREAT!!!

Are the one sided ones better than the 2 sided ones? I've never done anything in the medical field so have no clue how to take a blood pressure or anything.

Do you have to use a separate one for pediatric patients or can the diaphragm be changed to a pedi one when you need it?

Nothing was mentioned on the information that I received about having to use a separate one for pediatrics. Just that we need a stethoscope. lol No recommendations or anything.

When I went to school, they required us to have a dual-headed steth. I never used the smaller bell for anything. When I did my OB et Peds rotations, the units always had smaller steths for us, and preferred we use them over the ones we brought in.

I got the regular Ultrascope with a beach scene and royal blue tubing. It reminds of the Caribbean...which is where I want to be than rather be at work! :p

I can't hear doodly squat with even the most expensive Littman, but I can hear the slightest murmur with my Ultrascope! I paid $90 for it about 4 years ago, and it was the best $90 I ever spent on nursing supplies. Mine has a holographic head which glows in the dark.....even the patients think it's cool. :)

when i first started in ER i had a black littman spend alot of money on it. I used it at work twice and someone swiped it.(never to be seen again.) so then i bought an ultrascope with the BIG yellow smiley face on it. it's wonderful. i can hear so well with it. and i have NEVER had a doctor ask to borrow it, so i always have it with me and don't have to worry about it being "accidentally" stolen again.:) actually it looks alot like this smiley face!

I bought an Ultrascope 3-4 months ago....It's drivign me crazy..the ambient noises. I'm trying to listen to apical rate, and I hear everything in the room.

Maybe I got a bad one???
