  1. Dibleydale, I'm not sure if I'm too late in replying to this thread but I lived in between BC Children and VGH (worked at VGH) and I would highly recommend that you live in Vancouver to avoid the long commutes. I lived on West 16th and rent was on the high side but there are also some small apt buildings on Oak that aren't too pricey (at least that's what I was told). I would suggest living in the Oak St/Cambie neighbourhood so that you're somewhat close to work. It's also a great neighbourhood. Some of my colleagues also lived with roommates (if you're willing to consider it). Good luck with your search.
  2. Sorry...I just read your other post. Management for our units don't allow pets. Hope you can find a great place to live though.
  3. Are you looking to buy a place or rent first? If you're going to rent, the neighbourhood I'm living in is very nice and fairly close to BC Womens. I live at Cambie/W. 16th Avenue. Our complex has apartments and townhouses if you're thinking about renting and I can vouch that it's a really nice rental unit. Again, it depends on how much you're looking to spend. PM me if you're interested in rental info. Good luck with your move. Betty
  4. I worked with Vancouver Coastal Health and was recently hired by VGH. I'm moving from Toronto to Vancouver and had a really good experience with them. They're very helpful. I was also in contact with Health Match BC and didn't have such a great experience. You can PM me if you want more details. I don't have any family in Vancouver but friends who have moved there tell me that there's no place like it and they would never consider moving back to Ontario. Good luck to you. Betty
  5. We live in Toronto now and we're hoping to move to one of the larger cities in B.C. We're getting tired of the increasing gun violence in Toronto and B.C. is so beautiful. The nursing job fair is coming to Toronto so I'll probably go to that and speak to some of the recruiters from B.C. Thanks for your responses!
  6. We're thinking of moving from Ontario to B.C. and I was curious to hear about your nursing experiences in B.C. We're thinking about Vancouver but certainly up for looking at other places too. I have heard that rent is pricey...is it comparable to rent in Toronto or more expensive? Betty
  7. I subscribe to Nursing Made Incredibly Easy and Nursing 2006. I also get the "Canadian Nurse" but I get that with my RNAO membership. There are a few Canadian nursing journals out there. Betty
  8. Depends on what type of program are you looking for? I have a friend who finished her Masters through Athabasca U and said it was a great experience as she was able to work full-time while doing it. I'm in the process of applying to Athabasca for the Masters as well and the convenience is what is driving me to go there. I completed my BSN through UVic via online and it was a great experience so I imagine that Athabasca would be the same. Is McGill offering an online program or do you live in Quebec and plan to attend classes there? Betty
  9. Hi everyone, Thought I'd pick your brains about ethical dilemmas you may have experienced or witnessed in your practice...pls share your stories. Many thanks, Betty
  10. Do you have to use a separate one for pediatric patients or can the diaphragm be changed to a pedi one when you need it?
  11. When I interviewed for the ER years ago, I didn't have any ER experience, just a variety of M/S. I was given alot of scenario type questions to test my ability to critically think and prioritize (ie. triaging patients with different chief complaints). You'll do fine in the interview esp. with a strong M/S background. Good luck.
  12. You're never too old to go back to school! Best of luck to you! :)
