Hi People
I am a UK born citizen trained in Australia hence I am going via the overseas trained route. I passed my CBT test and am in the full application and assessment stage.
I am interested in sharing information with people who are also in this stage of the application.
I commenced my application in 2013 under the old process which was rejected due to lack of clinical hours. I received a letter from NMC advising me of the new process. Like many people on this forum, this entire process has been long, drawnout, frustrating and tedious for me!!!!!!!
Hey there, my fellow nursing friends!
Like the rest of you, I am undergoing the tortuous process of obtaining my UK nursing license. Individually, our stories don't mean much. But together, I think we could really bring some light to this issue. I mean, they say the UK needs more nurses, but you have to go through hell and back to get a license!
So, I'm collecting our stories, the good and the bad.
Give me a shout if you want to share :)
Hi everyone!
I just want to ask if anyone here had been told by NMC that they have to send another verification form filled out by PRC? I have sent NMC twice already, first during the old scheme and last March after I passed the CBT. They didn't explain why and the way they wrote it in my NMC online seems as though I didn't send one at all. But this whole time it was written that both of the verification forms were received. I sent two forms because i had worked in Saudi Arabia too. Any thoughts on this? really confusing...
I am applying from NZ and I also had to resubmit documents to the NMC - university didn't specify geriatrics so had to fill in a training area form. In NZ community nursing is called primary care nursing so also had a TA form filled in for that explaining the same. Another 70 day wait... if this doesnt work out I will do something else for a job, the whole process is just awful! Feel so defeated. Flying out early September.

Hi, Im from Korea but worked in the US. Same situation with me regarding geriatric hours missing in the script from my uni. I passed CBT on Mar, all document sent on 5 Jun, was requested extra doc on 14 Jul. I came to London in Apr hoping I could complete registration soon but till now I am unable to do anything but house sitting. Care assistant job is not also easy to get either. Its such agony that I feel like I am not needed here!
@summerscoopy26...... I can understand what you are going through as I am in the same boat....I am married to a UK citizen and have a kid I am totally stuck here. It takes 20 days for the NMC to reply to a mail.... they are moving like a snail...just can't believe. Frustration with this process is reflecting so badly on my personal life... I lost my peace... Each and every moment I think of the foolishness that I made... moving to UK. They talk big about UK nursing but they are so disorganised and no policy for orienting new staff....and bullying... Omg. Just praying for a miracle.
All the best dear.
Hello Everyone,
It appears that I am in a very similar situation as most of you are. I'm a US trained Emergency Dept. RN. I've officially been working on my NMC registration for one year now. Yesterday marked my 7th week of my full application being in the decision period of the process.
For those of you who were granted permission to take the OSCE, was any further immigration information shared with you?
I currently have a job offer in the UK waiting for me until I get my NMC pin. However, we are now facing a lot of confusion with my work visa and how best to handle this potential next step?
It seems like the different immigration websites give conflicting information? I am just trying to be proactive in preparing for my potential next step to help things move along.
Any insight or information would be tremendously appreciated! :)

As I work for no money, while I complete the contact hours for the NM.c, under the old system, and newly qualified nurses talk to me like crap....and have no idea about pathophisilogy (that's another story)....I realize, this move really isn't worth it. It's sad, but there is such hostility towards anyone perceived as foreign or gained a thorough education outside of the U.K.
Whatever means don't do it. I too am a U.S./UK citizen who trained in America. The NMC process is a nightmare and can take up to a year or more. You are treated very badly if you are perceived as foreign. The level of training in North America is more detailed and you use more of your skills!!! Please save your self the mental headache and do not do it. I will tell anyone who has trained in North America...do not come here to explore nursing. The pay is low, the attitudes of nurses towards you is horrible, and I had to "work as a nurse assistant" before I could get my pin...and I am a board certified adult nurse practitioner and women's health nurse practitioner in the US with 10 years nursing experience. People rave about the NHS, but the system is defunct, over subscribed, and antiquated in some aspects.
If you don't speak with a British accent, you are the nothing to them. I hate it hear. I came here for my fiancée and this was 10 steps back career wise. Please do not do it!!!! Take it from me....someone who has lost her confidence and completely demoralised by this process.
