Hi People
I am a UK born citizen trained in Australia hence I am going via the overseas trained route. I passed my CBT test and am in the full application and assessment stage.
I am interested in sharing information with people who are also in this stage of the application.
I commenced my application in 2013 under the old process which was rejected due to lack of clinical hours. I received a letter from NMC advising me of the new process. Like many people on this forum, this entire process has been long, drawnout, frustrating and tedious for me!!!!!!!
Hi Kizmwah and @dana
Congratulations and very good luck to both of you on your OSCE. Hope we will be following soon God willing. Please share your experiences with us we will be waiting. Kizmwah if I may ask your time line, when did you take C BT at least I will have an idea how long it takes to reach osce. Thanks and God bless.
@melcahussy
took cbt may 1.. I'm from the old system, so, i don't know if some of my docs have been assessed before i took cbt. Anyway, submitted all my docs 2nd week of may..then they said they didn't receive my ref1, so, i sent them the tracking number from royal mail. 1st week of june, they confirmed they've found it. Received my DL may 10. I would suggest emailing the uni and they will sent you payment link for osce. After that uni will send you reciept which contains the link to boom exam. Check your junk mail coz mine went there. You could prepare for osce while waiting for DL.. Lots of slots for the exam. hope that helps. God bless. xx
Hi Kizmwah
Thanks for the reply. Took cbt may 21 found result 1 week later coz email from nmc went to spam! I started with the new system so all docs are new. Anyway I haven't completed my docs yet prc taking so long coz I have to post my authorization letter to the Philippines. My TOR and med. Certificate have been received so hopefully all will be received by Aug. Still a long way to go before waiting again for d l. Can you email me please [email protected] I want to get your insight about citizenship. Thanks.
Hi EDRN -
I'm also a US-trained ED nurse.... and have been in the process since June of last year. Pretty similar circumstances! Best of luck to us both in finally registering :)
Hopefully you'll get your DL any day now...and a really big HOPEFULLY they won't tell you that they require further/new documents or else you'll go back in the queue like me. I was probably just very unlucky since I spent about 15 weeks in the queue the first time around (I think it took them 8 weeks or something completely ridiculous to scan one of my documents from the time I hand delivered them).
As far as the immigration situation, what I've been told is that NMC is completely out of the picture. It's up to you and your company in UK to do everything regarding the working visa. Have you spoken to your company about it yet?? Usually they need to apply for your C.O.S. (certificate of sponsorship) but they are usually unable to do this until NMC gives you the green light to take your OSCE - because then you will have a specific date to provide on the visa that will detail when you'll be in the country and when you'll likely start working.
The thing is, you should contact NMC NOW and see if they can give you an answer ASAP. I've heard that companies are ONLY able to apply for the C.O.S. during the first FIVE days of the month, and that would be RIGHT NOW on Mon, Tues, or Weds. If NMC doesn't get your DL now (which they probably won't, because well, you know...), you'll have to wait until next month to start the C.O.S. application.
After about 2 weeks, your company will receive notice from UK visas whether or not the COS has been approved, and at that time it's up to you to do your biometrics appt, submit the visa application, and mail in your passport.
Hope this helps. We should get in touch since I think our situations are similar. Which area of UK are you planning to work in? Good luck w/ NMC!
Hello Foxtrotunicorns,
Thank you for your input and well wishes! I wish you the best of luck as well.
It does sound like we may literally be in the same boat?
I also faced a nightmare of added time due to the slow "scanning of documents time" once I switched from the old application process to the new one. I officially started this process this time of last year. What an emotional ride it has been!
I would love to chat with you if possible, although I am pretty embarrassingly clueless on how to best use this website? I just (finally) created an account for myself last week. I don't know how to send a direct message yet if that is even possible?
Anywho, yes, I am somewhat familiar with the COS, and the monthly deadlines for the applications. It is another "hurdle" that I am facing. My employer is planning on sponsoring me, but says that they have to wait until I receive my NMC pin. I'd love to get in touch with you. Please let me know what the best way is to contact you. :)

Hi ED RN, I don't have any information on this, unfortunately. But I'm wondering how you were able to get a job offer and apply for jobs without having a visa showing authorization to work?
