UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE

Published

Hi People

I am a UK born citizen trained in Australia hence I am going via the overseas trained route. I passed my CBT test and am in the full application and assessment stage.

I am interested in sharing information with people who are also in this stage of the application.

I commenced my application in 2013 under the old process which was rejected due to lack of clinical hours. I received a letter from NMC advising me of the new process. Like many people on this forum, this entire process has been long, drawnout, frustrating and tedious for me!!!!!!!

Hi guys, I just thought that should I give up registration seriously. I was requested to provide extra documents after the assessment and did so. But it seemed like still no movement for further assessment so I called NMC to check if they were assessing my application. The NMC said the academic transcript did not look like the original and asked me to tell the university to provide the original. (The transcript was sent on this Apr!)I explained the forms were sent from the university directly and this is the original and they could check its authenticity by the issuance number provided. But they kept telling me to prove. It is just so frustrating. They only told me this today when I called. What if I didn't call... I just screamed to vent my anger. I really hope nobody here encounters this awful experience.

Cheers :)

Dear dana_canada,

You can find it at the bottom of the second page of your decision letter. Wait for a second email from the competency test center of the university of northampton for the payment link for the OSCE.

Hey!

Have you done your OSCE yet? What are you doing to prepare?! I'm all nervous! You can email me if you prefer :)

Hi Skye25!

how was your OSCE? Can you give us any ideas about the setting or anything about the exam? thanks!

Hey! Have you completed the OSCE?

Hi 072bomi

What an awful thing to happen. It seems nmc makes it sooooo difficult even just to get a DL, how much more with registration. Soon it will be winter and they will feel the impact of the shortage of nurses in health care facilities. Let's just hope they will hasten the process so they can have new nurses working soon (hopefully that will be us).

Just persevere my friend, don't give up you have gone this far with your application. We each have our various difficulties we encounter with the nmc. Let's boost each other up so we can achieve our aim. I haven't even completed my requirements, the prc authorization letter I sent for Mom to process took almost a month to reach her. My nbi clearance forms is 2 weeks on the post sent as registered mail but she hasn't received it also. Still a long way to go.

Have faith and He will make a way. Hope this helps. Good luck and God bless us all nurses!

@melcahussey

Thanks for your warm words melcahussey. I really feel a lot better now.

My hubby hit the roof when I told this story that it seems like NMC is abusing me. I visited NMC total 5 times and 3 times I met the advisors but none of them ever mentioned that some documents don't look like original. If they think the documents don't look like original it's their responsibility to check directly to my university and that's why I paid huge amount of money for the assessment I suppose.

Thanks again melcahussey you really cheered me up.

Hi Everyone!

I am an Aussie nurse, and have been trying to get my NMC pin for OVER 2 years!

I can not even describe the amount of frustration and defeat I have felt! I have submitted my paperwork twice initially first one was lost?? (not a great start!!) and the second came back rejected due to my university hours! And there was no way around it... I couldn't believe it! No one could, how could they reject an Aussie nurse everyone kept saying...

So i was told that i could possibly go back to university here, and try and graduate as a UK nurse, or try and recalculate and resubmit my hours to try and get on a 12month ONP.

Nothing was happening for a long time, and then the new system was brought in! Because surprise surprise no one was getting registered!! Now Ive had to resubmit everything again... which i can't even describe how annoyed i was, so back to Australia i went to collect everything, paid again, and brought it all back, resubmitted, sat the theory test, which I'm glad i waited to do, because they had to change how it was marked because so many people were failing it! And now I am waiting for this OSCE date... Ive worked in hospitals all over London as a HCA, and i can not describe the magnitude of incompetence of some, and the brilliance of others!

I just want us all to get there! Because we are losing skills, money and our minds!!!

Hello!

I literally just joined all nurses so I could add to this post! I am an Aussie nurse who faces all the same issues listed here. It's been unreal!!

So many people have asked me if it's as bad for nurses going to Australia and I always say no! My dad met an Indian nurse who registered in Australia in 3 months - God bless Australia and it's efficiency!

Being stuck in this system is truly soul destroying but it's taught me that whilst I am a nurse there's a lot more to me than just being a nurse. I'm sure you are all wonderful people with so much to offer no matter what the NMC say! Don't let them control your happiness and don't let them put your life on hold.

@daniellecasey

Unbelievable, truly unbelievable! Your case is by far worse then mine. Cheer up!

I went for a job interview for band 3 HCA today and the panels said I am too over qualified for the job position. Also, they do not prefer to hire nurses who are waiting for a pin because if they hire them as a HCA, train them for months then they will get a pin and quit!

I told the panels that according to a nurse from a nurses forum online, it is over 2 years but still waiting for a pin. The panels seemed to disbelieve. (Who would believe!!!)

072bomi,

I work bank HCA...and it is one of the most soul destroying experiences. I am under the old system and just finished course. I am disgusted and am on track to go back to the U.S. in a bit. This place ain't worth nothing. I am MSN graduate and N.P. I will not subject myself to this anymore. They are behind here anyway, compared to North America. They will catch up, probably 10 years from now. Nurses here are essentially low wage government workers. The base salary is 33k in US dollars as a RN...so you make more in the US and the cost of living is lower.

I truly had high hopes and wanted to experience nursing on an international scale, but no thanks. It's time to go home, my real home with my hubby in toe.

@summerscoopy

I worked in the US before coming to the UK. While in the US, I got paid more than double the amount Ill most probably get if I start working here.

I sometimes think it would have been better if I stayed America where nurses get better treated and paid. I cannot even imagine you, NP with master's degree working as a bank HCA. Just shocking and even knowing that is agonising!

Just got my DL today. Anyone here from the Philippines? Any updates on COS? Who among here is under ASC global/drake?
