UF accelerated BSN Summer 2019

U.S.A. Florida

Hello!

It's only May but I am already working on getting my ducks in a row for the Post-bacc application. I thought it would be nice to start a thread so applicants can support each other through the process! I know I have a million questions already and I am trying hard not to pester admissions.

I am so excited to be almost done with my prerequisites and I am looking forward to finally applying this Fall!

I would love to hear about everyone's background, projects, questions, and hopefully we can help each other out.

Good luck to all! We got this!

Yeah that is definitely not the right form. I don’t understand how they are making it so difficult for us and last year they did it easily

Yeah they said it was so I don’t know? I’m wondering if there is a waitlist or not

@Silly_Cilia Kind of late but are you guys still looking for a 4th roommate?

Hey everyone,

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted to the nursing program at UF! I have been reflecting a lot about my application for Summer 2019. I didn't get accepted, and it was a really heartbreaking experience. I felt like I gave everything I had, and I feel a little discouraged and lost. I tried asking Kenneth regarding my performance, and he was very vague/generic with his answer. If any of you who got accepted to the program could offer me some insight about their application, such as their assessment, essay, grades, etc., I would appreciate it so much.

It's hard for me to express how passionate I am to realize the dream to become a nurse some day, but trust me, it's a lot! Any advice or words of wisdom or really anything optimistic is what I'm really looking for. Thanks so much in advance!

Rebeccabecca, I can only imagine how you're feeling now, but don't give up on your dream! I'd be happy to talk with you via PM. Just send me a message!

@crnameplease, I just sent you a message, check your inbox. ?

For those who are wondering about petition process, I honestly do not know how they are dealing with that now. I went to UF Nursing school 2017-2018 year, and after that they changed all the application process. So I don't know and don't want to give you guys wrong information. My best bet is to go see Kenneth or whoever the advisor is in person and explain to them.
Honestly, I did not have good experience with my nursing education with UF (and mostly 90% of the past and current students will agree). But I am now a nurse because of them, so I am not going to say anything.

Good luck for everyone!

@ufgatorjax86 could you explain why you did not have a good education experience with them? If you don’t feel comfortable posting it here, could you dm instead please?

Hi @Rebeccabecca and future applicants reading:

I did see before of others asking for stats, but I was really hesistant in doing so because my stats arent something I go around bragging about. Though, if it’ll help someone out...

Grades: I failed classes. No. Not B. Not C. A real failing grade. Youve probably never seen what letter it is. I hope you havent. Its the letter “E”. Counted towards my GPA as “0.0”. I read past forums, too. And all i see are people who say “don’t worry about getting a B.” Well how about an E? Or how about withdrawing from two other classes before that? Or how about another D? I had all these in my transcript. All because of my chemistry series. By the way, I attended UF all four years and graduated there. I ended up graduating with a 3.2 gpa despite everything.

Volunteer: Zero clinical experience relating to nursing.

How on earth did this person pass (you’re wondering that aren’t you)? I truly believe it wasn’t my grades, nor clinical experience that got me in. I do believe it had something to do with my essay and recommendation letters.

Essay: I just answered the questions honestly. Also, I think my writting skills helped alot. I’m pretty confident with showing my voice/personality through my writting.

Recommendation Letters: From professors who knew me. Who didn’t need my personal statement or my resume to write my recommendation letters.

I’m the very proof that UF does look at an applicant holistically. So apply even when the odds are against you. You have a better chance of getting in if you apply.

It hurts to fail or be rejected. I know how it feels as you could tell from my stats. Why am I not good enough? What did I do to deserve this? I would ask myself all these questions. It is even worse when you don’t get an answer, because how could I improve? I hope everything works out for you @Rebeccabecca!

Hey there! As one of the students that understands the original poster's message, I can try to answer. At UF CON, the administration has a bad habit of treating students like numbers. A majority of the professors make no effort to get to know their class (of course there are exceptions) and only care that you pass the course. The whole curriculum is aimed at improving the NCLEX pass rate, which is great, but real nursing requires much more than that. You will rarely get a patient or situation that perfectly aligns with a NCLEX objective and so to teach students in this way isn't always effective. On top of this, the CON is sometimes extremely disorganized. This is why patience is so important to this program! There will be times when you are so frustrated that you will want to drop out, but I promise that you can get through it. At the end of the day, you will (likely) become a nurse and you'll get to tell people that you attended a top-tier institution.

With all of that being said, the OG poster and I went through the program before the curriculum was changed. I have personally heard mixed things about the new curriculum, but mostly great things. Also, despite its many flaws, I can truly say that I wouldn't want to go anywhere else because of the friendships I've made and the great experiences I've had. I made an effort to get to know my professors and to learn as much as I could during clinicals. When our professors just weren't teaching us, my friends and I collaborated and taught ourselves. So what I'm saying is this program is really what you make it. I'm not saying that I wouldn't have received a better education elsewhere, but I'm happy with the decision I made to attend UF CON. I hope that by the end of your program you can say the same!

Hi @gmarie98! I don’t remember saying that ?. Are you sure it was a comment from me?

I just got my acceptance to the Jacksonville campus!! ? I’m so confused though, when they sent my rejection email in March they didn’t even say I was on the waitlist. I’ve already completed all the background testing, submitted all my documents, spent money on scrubs, etc for UCF lol. Did this happen to anyone else?
