UF accelerated BSN Summer 2019

U.S.A. Florida

Hello!

It's only May but I am already working on getting my ducks in a row for the Post-bacc application. I thought it would be nice to start a thread so applicants can support each other through the process! I know I have a million questions already and I am trying hard not to pester admissions.

I am so excited to be almost done with my prerequisites and I am looking forward to finally applying this Fall!

I would love to hear about everyone's background, projects, questions, and hopefully we can help each other out.

Good luck to all! We got this!

I just got my acceptance to the Jacksonville campus!! ? I’m so confused though, when they sent my rejection email in March they didn’t even say I was on the waitlist. I’ve already completed all the background testing, submitted all my documents, spent money on scrubs, etc for UCF lol. Did this happen to anyone else?

Yes!!! Same thing happened to me on Tuesday!!!! I’m so confused and stressed atm

How long did they give you to accept?

3 days, this was last Tuesday not this Tuesday

After you got you rejection letter in March did you do anything like ask why you didn't get in, or contest it, or did you just assume you did not get in so no need to do anything further?

Does anyone know how old the UF nursing program is in Jax? Ever since I got my acceptance email the other day I’ve kind of been freaking out deciding on whether or not to accept. I’ve already committed to UCF and completed all my requirements needed before the start of the program but moving back in with my parents in Jacksonville would save me a lot of rent money. I’m just hesitant to go to the Jax campus cause of what I’ve heard about it being worse than Gainesville/having a new curriculum/not having as many resources. Plus the NCLEX pass rate at UCF is higher anyway.

I emailed Kenny asking about the appeal process and he said something along the lines of there were many competitive applicants and he encouraged me to look into other nursing programs. So I never got to appeal.

But after I got my acceptance recently I emailed him again asking if my acceptance was real since my original rejection email didn’t mention me being on the waitlist. He said my acceptance email was correct and they did something new this year where they didn’t tell students if they were on the waitlist or not. Which I think is dumb lmao.

You will be the 4th cohorts in Jacksonville. Have you tour UCF campus? If yes, it might have much better resources than UF Jax. Go tour both places and make your decision that way.

My guess is that they are just trying to fill up the space. UF nursing program is definitely trending down compare to decades ago where they actually teach and care about their students. Nowadays, its all about the admission and money they can get. A lot of nurses at UF Health Gainesville prefers to precept Santa Fe student rather than UF student. That tells you the quality of the program. A lot of UF nursing alumni will agree in the quality of their program. So, its up to you.

I am currently in the third cohort, and I absolutely love the program. I think that every program has its ups and downs, but the opportunities I have been given are amazing! I hear that things are going to only get better. If you want to stay in Jacksonville after the program, you are pretty much guaranteed a job. There are a lot of perks and rewarding experiences. Feel free to reach out with any other questions.

Hi, everyone! I'm planning on applying to this program soon and I'm worried about having to quit my job. Is it possible to work while in this program? I'd be able to change my hours to 6:30am-2:30pm M-F so my late afternoons and evenings would be free. Is this feasible?!

Just to give you an idea of the schedule, this semester we have clinicals on Mondays, sometimes 6:30am-2:30pm, sometimes evenings for psych. Tuesdays are for exams or extra labs, usually 10-12, 2-4. Wednesdays we have class 8-4, Thursdays class 8-5, Fridays are for exams.

That would be very difficult as most of the classes are during the day, and clinical is also during the morning/early afternoon. I worked 20-35 hours a week at times, but I worked a 3-11 shift. I believe the only reason I got through working that many hours was because I was a night person so I did schoolwork when I got home, and I worked at a retirement home so when I got the residents to sleep I would study and work on homework. I highly recommend a job like that! It not only helped me clinically, but having the time to study at work helped a ton. If it wasn't for the down time at work I would've never been able to work nearly full-time. It is a very demanding program, and there are a lot of outside activities from the classroom so scheduling can be hard so finding a job that will understand is crucial too. Hope that helps!
