UF accelerated BSN Summer 2019

U.S.A. Florida

Hello!

It's only May but I am already working on getting my ducks in a row for the Post-bacc application. I thought it would be nice to start a thread so applicants can support each other through the process! I know I have a million questions already and I am trying hard not to pester admissions.

I am so excited to be almost done with my prerequisites and I am looking forward to finally applying this Fall!

I would love to hear about everyone's background, projects, questions, and hopefully we can help each other out.

Good luck to all! We got this!

Anyone who was denied , are you still trying to petition or have you gave up?

I’m still going to try and petition. Has anyone received an email notifying them that they’ve been waitlisted? (Is there even a waitlist??) SOS

Hey all!

Out of curiosity, did anyone ask Kenneth (or whoever would know the answer to this) the statistics on this years applicants? I recall on one of the prior UF ABSN forums someone had emailed Kenneth and he provided the number of total applicants, # of accepted, average GPA, etc.

^I’d like to know these stats as well. Let us know if you find out!

Hi! I am still trying to petition. However the department seems very reluctant to help in doing so. I was referred to a petition form but I am pretty sure it is not the right one. They told me it is done through the university not the college. I have retroactively withdrawn from a course at UF during my undergrad and it is the same exact form that requires instructor interview forms, etc. I'm trying to gain clarification as the form does not seem applicable to us. This is the link I was given: https://registrar.ufl.edu/services/petitions

Yeah that is definitely not the right form. I don’t understand how they are making it so difficult for us and last year they did it easily

Hey y’all. This is my first time posting here. I was accepted into the Jacksonville campus. Where is the FB group/how do I get an invite to it? I’m definitely going to want to carpool because I’m staying in Gainesville.

Hey I remember reading this post awhile ago! I am wondering are you still planning on carpooling. I can tell you from experience and from students in the program it’s a really bad decision to go back and forth between the two areas. The program is extensive and you will have classes starting at 7 and not end until 5 give or take. I’m not telling you not to go!!! If you can do I give you a ton of credit! but I did one class at uf once a week and drove from Jax to gainesville and it was awful for just that one class I couldnt imagine doing it for an accelerated BSN.

I was actually one of the people who was mistakenly notified of their Jacksonville acceptance and then later notified of actually being in Gainesville. Thank goodness!

Does anyone truly know anything about accelerated BSN of UF vs. UM? Both schools seems great to me. The fact that I am out of state is making it a little difficult to chose. Wishing everyone a good luck :)

I've also been accepted to both and I'm going to UM. Their program is one of the best in the country and it's super cheap compared to UF (for out of state). That was a big factor for me when I decided

Mentors or current/prior students of this program: do students work during the program? If so, how many?

I did my BSN in 2017-2018 year, and I started working part=time (2 days/week) as a CNA in Gainesville on the weekend every week while doing my nursing school in Jacksonville. I did that because no one is paying my tuition, so I had to get money and experience.
One of my classmates worked full-time, commute everyday from Palatka for classes/clinicals, and have a son. And she did that throughout all 15 months of nursing school.
So my answer, it is possible to work during the program. Is it hard? Yes. The question to you is, how badly do you need the money/experience. Will it be worth it working as a CNA first? Yes, you will be a better nurse because of it.

If anyone needs an apartment in Gainesville I’m subleasing my 1/1 in a 3/3 at Varsity House Apartments for $400 a month, it’s usually $595.45! I’ll be moving out at the beginning of May ready for you to move in for Gainesville campus nursing school! Let me know if you’re interested!

for the absn program, will we register ourselves for classes or does the academic adviser register us?

also, are there multiple times for classes or is every class only offered at one time? (and same for clinicals)?

thank you!

Hey! For the program our adviser registered us the first semester but after that, we did it ourselves (unless there were issues). If he ends up registering you for courses, I would be sure to double check your schedule to ensure you are actually registered for all of them before classes begin.

Be sure to keep an eye on your UF account for registering for classes. Sometimes you will get holds that prevent you from registering because you need to complete certain tasks (they do not usually take long to complete, however).

As for your second question, all in-person classes are at the same time for everyone and there is only one class section for your program (at least this is how it is in Jax). The exception to this is clinicals. This will vary between clinical groups in addition to individuals depending on the semester.

Hey current students!

If you are willing to share your experience, how did you or your classmates handle financial aid? As in, when did you find out of your aid? Did financial service help with your specific issues as to next steps you could take if their “award” was not enough to cover expenses?
