UCSF MSN FALL 2014

Published

Just wanted to start a separate thread for those whom have applied for UCSF's traditional MSN program for Fall 2014. I personally applied for AGNP program, crossing fingers. I initially wanted to apply last year but welcomed our 3rd child last August and thought it might be too much to take on at the same time.

From checking out some older threads and asking Student Affairs, it looks like we won't get word until late March or even early April.

So for clarification 8 where admitted to Adult Gero Primary NP, and 4 to the HIV/AIDs focus. I thought the class would be a little bigger, but I guess there is a faculty shortage.

Hi everyone! Congrats to all those who have been selected in the MSN programs! I applied to the FNP concentration and I have also been chosen as an alternate. I tried to call for more specifics but they couldn't tell me what number alternate I am :( They did say though that the latest they would be accepting alternates into the program is late July (if an alternate is needed).

@jojonavy: yes, I applied to the Adult geriatric NP program only w/o minors. Only 12...I wonder out of how many applicants. I have a colleague who applied 4 years ago, got rejected but a week later got called in for the same program but with a minor. So I wonder how they actually decide who gets in and who doesn't.... That is the big question.

fingers crossed for you!!! when did you actually hear the news, was it via email or just checking the website? thank you!

I applied for the FNP program also. I called the SON yesterday and they told me we should hear back by the end of this week!! And they should email you the results. Been checking my email almost every hour. This wait is such torture! Keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck!

Hello everyone! Just spoke to SJ today and he confirmed that there were 85 applicants and 15 accepted for the FNP speciality. He did say that the FNP notifications have gone out and the deadline to respond is next week? Thus, the SON should have a better picture of the roster of the next couple of weeks. Alternates will first be notified over the phone and also by an email from the university. He said there was an extensive number of alternates with no particular ranking due to various reasons, i.e. limitation of the number of students that can be supported or if they feel that you would be a better candidate for next year because of lack of experience. Anywho, he did say that if we have any questions about our application then to contact the specialty coordinator to see the actual specifics on why we were chosen as alternates or not admitted. This way, we would see if it's worth it to apply again next year or not.

Hope this helps! Good luck to everyone else waiting to hear back, I know the wait is excruciating!

Thanks for the updates everyone! @tinatb--good update on specifics. I been too chicken to call in and find out about the waitlist. I'm leaving this up to fate now lol, whatever will be will be.

Hope to hear more good news on the forum for the rest of ya and congrats on those who got in so far.

This is what the doc said at work: "Don’t count your chickens yet! They may very well call you off the list. You just have to decide if you’d be interested when they do. "

@angelasolleder: I was rooting for you! May I ask how long have you been working at UCSF? Did you have 5 recommenders as well from your higher ups that is within UC? I'm just curious...

Checked my application and still under review; trying to think now what I would do if I don't get in, you know, to make my credentials more appealing for next year's application...
