UCSF MSN FALL 2014

Published

Just wanted to start a separate thread for those whom have applied for UCSF's traditional MSN program for Fall 2014. I personally applied for AGNP program, crossing fingers. I initially wanted to apply last year but welcomed our 3rd child last August and thought it might be too much to take on at the same time.

From checking out some older threads and asking Student Affairs, it looks like we won't get word until late March or even early April.

One of our managers tried to apply for the ACNP program- he is young but very smart- did not make the cut 2 or 3 years ago when he applied...

@Tinatb you cant go wrong with getting into UCLA or CSULB. CSULB is probably the best bang for your dollar and UCLA would be awesome because its connected with a large health system for plenty of diffeferent clinical rotation experience

Yeah the main point of NPs is to provide quality medical care for under served populations. Teaching should be down the road, but shouldnt be the focus. 1st she should give back to the community. She cant teach being a NP? She doesnt have any NP experience.

I hear what you're saying, but to think in UCSF's "headspace" (and obviously, this is just my opinion).....they are aiming for a diverse, international cohort that will get the name of UCSF out there on a global scale. While it's great to focus on under served populations, they picture themselves on a loftier academic scale than, say, a Long Beach State or SF State.

More of a Harvard or Johns Hopkins (and we're certainly paying for that cache, as it's more than double the price of a CSU!)

@angelasolleder: hi. I was just curious if you have heard anything yet on your application. Funny, I have checked mine a couple of times today already and it hasn't changed.

Hi there,

I haven't heard anything either, hope we do soon! I did call the SON on Monday and inquired if the FNP notifications had been sent, and was told "no" by whomever answered the phone. so we wait i guess....:shy:

Thank you @iska2000! It's crazy how competitive these programs are, but definitely worth applying to a state school next year if you don't get in. But keeping my fingers crossed that you do!

@jojonavy - totally agree that CSULB offers the best education for the price! I graduated from there in Dec. 09, but UCSF has been my dream school since I graduated because of their reputation, resources, and HIV/AIDS minor.

@tinatb; cool your a dirtbag / 49er also? Where you in the Trimester program or traditional? I graduated in December 2010, but could've graduated in 09 if I'd done the Trimester route..... If there was a CSU program in the bay area like CSULB I'd jump all over it... Yeah UCSF would be awesome, I wish Stanford still had a NP/PA program.... Now it's just for PA's

Didn't log in today- I guess there is no news yet as nobody has posted any updates or whatsoever... this waiting game is stressing me out- I'm glad my family and I are going out of town this weekend. Hope you guys are finding other things to keep you preoccupied. :-)

Have a nice weekend everyone! I actually upped my lisinopril because I think i'm stressing out too much over this waiting.

(I know....bad nurse).

I checked one time only, as I think it's getting a bit over-the-top.
