UCSF MSN FALL 2014

Published

Just wanted to start a separate thread for those whom have applied for UCSF's traditional MSN program for Fall 2014. I personally applied for AGNP program, crossing fingers. I initially wanted to apply last year but welcomed our 3rd child last August and thought it might be too much to take on at the same time.

From checking out some older threads and asking Student Affairs, it looks like we won't get word until late March or even early April.

@jojonavy: did you apply somewhere else?

No just UCSF, I got into an Adult Gero NP program at CSULB back in 2012, but I decided to move my family out to the South Bay Area to be closer to family. If i dont get in this go around then Im going to apply everywhere next year. UCSF is my dream school!

Hi Everybody! I too applied for the MSN FNP program at UCSF and am anxiously waiting to know results. I am a current UCSF RN/outpatient nurse manager and only know that for the FNP there were 85 applicants and approximately 15 spots. Am not feeling particularly hopeful given those odds, but so happy to find this site and connect with you all. Best of luck to everyone!

Yikes yeah I think FNP is by far the most popular specialty... do you happen to know the stats for AGNP?

I am scared to know... Do our spots get less if they admit more MEPNs? Do you know?

@iska2000, they said they like to finalized the roster by July - but it wouldn't be impossible to hear from them after that. I'm still waiting to hear back from CSULB, but I don't plan on applying again next year.

@tinatb: congrats for making it on the FNP waitlist- a pretty tough program to get into. I applied to UCSF and UCLA and both programs are pretty competitive. I'm probably going to try state u's next year if I don't get in to either schools... But first, I have to overcome my uncertainties and self-doubt if I fail, which would be the hardest part...I'm hopeful and still keeping my fingers crossed.

You know what kinda urks me, I work with this older RN who has tons of ICU experience over seas. She got into the Acute Care NP program and her plan is to go back to China and teach...... I wonder if she shared that during the application process.

I don't mean this offensively, but it would be such a waste though, for the greater things that she can do and be capable of after finishing the program, if that is her ONLY plan.
