Just wanted to start a separate thread for those whom have applied for UCSF's traditional MSN program for Fall 2014. I personally applied for AGNP program, crossing fingers. I initially wanted to apply last year but welcomed our 3rd child last August and thought it might be too much to take on at the same time.
From checking out some older threads and asking Student Affairs, it looks like we won't get word until late March or even early April.
Hi everyone! Just wondering if anyone is still on this forum? I actually got an email yesterday from admissions saying that I was admitted to the FNP program! However it was confusing because it said on my status that my application was "declined". Definitely will follow up tomorrow. Has anyone ever faced this discrepancy? Pretty anxious!
Hey jojonavy, so it turns out that the school made an error :/ I actually didn't get admitted and am still an alternate. However I'm way at the bottom of the waitlist so they kept encouraging me to apply next year... I was pretty bummed out. I guess it all works out in the end though because I'll be going to UCI for my FNP license this Fall I mean of course I wish I got into UCSF but maybe it's not such a bad thing after all?
Wanted to give a little update. So I'm in 3rd week of the 2nd quarter of the AGNP OEH program. It's doable but a lot of work, and the quarter system is very fast. The OEH program is a double major so there was much more school work than I expected. There are a few people that still work full time, but for the most part most of my classmates work very minimally.
To those that are planning on applying. My advise is to get some volunteer experience, be it one week or 1 year, the faculty is only looking for any type of volunteer experience with an undeserved population. This would also be the main focus of your essay, in the desire to work with a specific undeserved population. I originally didn't get into the traditional AGNP program, I believe mainly on my lack of volunteer experience.
I'm considering applying to the FNP program. I would love to hear more about current student's experiences with the program and their clinical sites. I deferred Columbia's program, as I needed more time to be a nurse and to consider if Columbia's FNP program was the right fit. If anyone doesn't mind chatting over FREE lunch/dinner/drinks/coffee when I visit in October, I would greatly appreciate it!
